My name is Bill. I teach in Taiwan, so during the school year I live in Asia and during vacations I return home to Virginia. I have been trying to play seriously for about a year. I mostly play correspondance chess on chessworld.net since I cannot find any OTB partners in my part of Taiwan. I am rated by chessworld as a "strong beginner," which seems to me to be an oxymoron. I have a Ph.D. in Tibetan Buddhism from the University of Virginia. I am currently learning Chinese. Chess and Chinese seem equally difficult to acquire. Maybe chess is more difficult, since Chinese doesn't fight back.

wam7c: An Estonian friend just gave me a 5 Krooni note - Estonian currency issued 1994. It features Paul Keres on the front and a fortified bridge on the back.

wam7c: 38.Qf6 leaves Schacher's King undefended. Qh1 or Qf1 any better?

wam7c: <sneaky pete> I see it now. The pawn on c7 prevents Qxd6. Thanks for the illumination!
