Nov-27-08 Zukertort vs Steinitz, 1886

wvkevin: 14. b5 is virtually a meaningless move. 0-0 on that move would have been much better. |

Nov-11-08 Spassky vs Fischer, 1972
|
wvkevin: If there was one move Bobby Fischer made that would mark the turning point from non-World Champ to World Champion it has to be Nh5 on the 11th move. Up until that point Spassky had beaten him 4 wins to none OTB (not counting draws and the default the previous game). While not a ... |

Oct-29-08 Anand vs Kramnik, 2008
|
wvkevin: I stand by my statement, there is nothing DRAMATICALLY better about White's position, Kramnik had nothing to lose (who care's about a 1/2 point after a match?) by seeing if he can outplay Anand in the endgame, thus extending the match. Perhaps he was convinced Anand's endgame ... |

Oct-26-08 Krasenkow vs Nakamura, 2007
|
wvkevin: White's Nc6 is terribly unsound, I'm also bit surprised that when black captures with the rook white gets a bit too greedy and pays the price for it. |

Oct-25-08 Botvinnik vs Tal, 1960
|
wvkevin: Botvinnik's 20th move (exf5) was the short sighted error that allows the Knight sacrifice to work. Tal realized he would get two pawns back immediately, plus creating 2 isolated pawns on the King side. As the game played out it proved to be a small enough of an advantage to win the ... |

wvkevin: Yep, black's Bc8 a terrible tactical blunder. |

Jun-11-08 Kasparov vs Deep Junior, 2003
|
wvkevin: Extremely interesting game. Looks like the computer took Tal's advice (Sacrifice first, then calculate later) on the 10th move, apparently good enough for perpetual check against the "former" World Champion. Could Gazza had improved on his play, thus resulting in black's making an ... |

Jun-09-08 C J Corte vs J Bolbochan, 1946

wvkevin: BxR on too eager on black's 11th move. Should have played Bd7, then castled King side. |

May-07-08 Tal vs Karpov, 1987
|
wvkevin: Perhaps Karpov had a penchant for placing a bishop directly in front of a pawn. He did the same thing against Larry Christansen who retreated his Queen the next move to it's orginal square forking the bishop and knight to immediately win a piece. Karpov resigned after that one move. |

Feb-19-08 Anand vs Aronian, 2008
|
wvkevin: 18.Nf1? Seems like a lost move to me as V later moves the Knight back to same square while it accomplished nothing on the f1 square. |
