   Dec-22-04 Kibitzer's Café (replies)

Lowintermediate: <nikolaas> and <tpstar> The holidays have often made the world better, even if briefly. The most famous example is the football match between the Germans and Brits on Christmas Day during WW1. If everyone was gloom and doom the whole time, there would be even ...

   Dec-11-04 Karjakin - Nakamura Match (2004) (replies)

Lowintermediate: That think before 35 axb3 destroyed Naka.

   Dec-03-04 J Westman vs E Havansi, 1964 (replies)

Lowintermediate: <greystar69> Fair enough!

Nov-30-04 Grischuk vs Lunev, 1999 (replies)

Lowintermediate: Absolutely brilliant! 21. Rxh6! Allows Black to march the White king all the way from c1 to h1, but ends up forking Black's king (now at f2) and queen! I'm not sure whether he saw the continuation, or just had a good feeling about it--presumably the latter.

Lowintermediate: <TheGreatNN>: Suenteus prefers not to play e4, I think, hence his position doesn't transpose exactly into KGA. I don't know much about Philidor's Defense positions, though.

   Nov-24-04 K Heinola vs Bagirov, 1991

Lowintermediate: 13. c4 risks, as happens here, giving Black a half-open file aimed at White's backward d-pawn, with resulting considerable positional pressure.

   Nov-18-04 H Steiner vs Botvinnik, 1946 (replies)

Lowintermediate: Real basic comments--please correct! 9 Bf4, grabbing a nice diagonal and gaining control of Black's hole at e5 10 ... Qh5 Black begins kingside attack characteristic of Dutch Stonewall 11 Rae1 White announces intention to push e4, but Black's attack is quicker due to the ...

   Nov-17-04 Yermolinsky vs E Tate, 2001 (replies)

Lowintermediate: Tate is an FM--this makes me feel less bad when I lose a match in under 20 moves!

   Nov-10-04 Staunton vs E Williams, 1851 (replies)

Lowintermediate: 23 e6 is nice here--I'm sure I would have fuffed around by trying to trade off my backward e pawn or else blockaded black's passed pawn, where attack with e6 is definitely what's called for!

Nov-10-04 Greco vs NN, 1620 (replies)

Lowintermediate: I like this queen trap--has any one else played this in a tournament?
