   Aug-08-24 M Cebalo vs Vasiukov, 2014 (replies)

lentil: First I saw that Nh7+ frees square g5 for a B skewer of K and Q, but that BK can avoid it by retreating to e7. Then I saw that Nd5 would be mate except for the P/c6, so that Qd5 to threaten Qe6# was allowed. But after ... Qe7. I didn't notice that then BK cannot retreat then to e7 ...

   Aug-07-24 Bo Pang (replies)

lentil: None of his opponents was particularly strong. Nonetheless, 11 - 0 - 0 is impressive.

   Aug-06-24 A Mero vs B Pang, 2024 (replies)

lentil: 9. ... Nb8 threat a6 seems to win.

   Aug-02-24 P K Wells vs A Ghasi, 2024

lentil: oops! (28. ... Ne3+)

Jul-31-24 Pg Hj Jaafar Pg Omar Baki vs Pg Hj Mohd Limbang, 2001 (replies)

lentil: A bit of googling finds that Pg' and 'Hj' are abbreviations of titles: "Pengiran [abbreviated Pg.] is a hereditary title for those who are related by bloodline to the Royal family concurrently or historically", and "Haji [abbreviated Hj.] can be used by people who have completed the ...

   Jul-17-24 Charles Gurnhill (replies)

lentil: Apparently his year of birth has been corrected: it's now 1891.

   Jul-13-24 Manuel Rivas Pastor

lentil: His bio does not mention any titles.

   Jul-05-24 Maroczy vs J Perlis, 1907

lentil: I wouldn't call the sac 'speculative': W gets 2 pawns for the B, plus the nasty threat of fork on d6 (to which B acquiesces), B's King is exposed, and the N/a5 has little value. Even this B-player would try it.

   Jul-03-24 M Judd vs B White, 1870

lentil: 18. ..Kf6 19 Bxg5+ crush

Jul-01-24 Lasker - Marshall World Championship Match (1907) (replies)

lentil: "Tedious play aimed at wearing down my opponent is averse to my nature." Yes, and psychological warrior Lasker exploited this weakness!
