RYBKA (COMPUTER)
(born 2004) Czech Republic

[what is this?]

Rybka (Czech for "little fish") is a computer chess engine designed by IM Vasik G Rajlich. It supports both single processor and SMP systems. Iweta Radziewicz Rajlich is the main tester & Hans van der Zijden is one of her operators. Jeroen Noomen & Jiri Dufek co-authored her opening book. At the WCCC (2006), Rybka, playing under the name Rajlich, tied for 2nd place with Shredder (Computer), and behind the champion, Junior (Computer). Rybka won the 15th World Computer Chess Championship in Amsterdam, 2007 and the 16th World Computer Chess Championship in Beijing, September 28th to October 5th 2008 with 8.0/9 (+7 -0 =2). During 2009-10, she also became the World Computer Speed Chess Champion.

In 2011, the International Computer Games Association (ICGA) ruled that Raljich had plagiarized two other programs, Crafty and Fruit, disqualified him for life from competing in the World Computer Chess Championship and all other ICGA events, and stripped Rybka of the championship titles it had won in 2006 through 2010.

Jun-05-06  Dionyseus: <Life Master AJ> Again you're wrong. Look at the Final Standings table, it says Vasik (and pretty much everyone else in that tournament) used Rybka 1.1. Also look at the date of the Freestyle Tournament, that was months before the release of Rybka 1.2.
Jun-05-06  Dionyseus: <And I was deadly serious when I said that the WCC 2006 helped me to make a buying decision, when the new version of Junior comes out - that will be the program that I will purchase.>

Good for you, you're free to buy any program you want. Why not post in the Junior forum? Here's the link: Junior (Computer)

Jun-05-06  Jilted Rook: Among the top engines purchasing decisions are more sensibly made on style rather than comparative strength - otherwise its like saying I'm going to buy this bomb to blow myself up because it contains 51 kilos of semtex over the others 50. Either way the results are equally devastating.

<LIFE Master AJ> I suggest you would get blown away by any of the following:- Fritz, Rybka, Junior, Hiarcs, Shredder, EtaBeta :)

Jun-05-06  NakoSonorense: Good post, blingice! AJ must be honored...
Jun-05-06  blingice: <Jilted Rook> has easily made the most hilarious and accurate post ever written on this website (or TMHAAPEWOTW for short).
Jun-06-06  Xaurus: <LMAJ>Hehe, that tournament you provided link to has nothing to do with Rybka 2, it was a tournament where many people participated in where they used Rybka 1.1, including the creator Rajlich.

Anyway, since you want to be blind, be my guest. Obviously no one here can change that.

Jun-06-06  Karpova: <Behind Vvarkey were six players with six points each. So all seven automatically qualified for the final round, which will be played out on April 8th and 9th, 2006. Amongst the qualified programs is Hydra, the multi-processor hardware system developed in the United Arab Emirates. Its handle is Zor_Champ. Rajlich,Rybka, which is the Rybka program run by its author Vas Rajlich, qualified, as did Correspondence Chess GM Arno Nickel, playing under the name Ciron.>

Wow, LMAJ really confuses the nickname of Rybka (Rajlich,Rybka 1.1) from an internet freestyle tournament with the name the author gave the multiprocessor beta version of Rybka 2. The prog participating there was not even version 1.2. This is completely ridiculous since the name the program had in the freestyle tournament wasn't even <Rajlich> but <Rajlich,Rybka 1.1> and look at the other names: <Vvarkey,Rybka 1.1 32-bit>, <King Crusher,Rybka 1.1>, <Ultima,Rybka 1.1 32-bit> (i guess that LMAJ will also start claiming Ultama online to be the Rybka chessprogram), <Octapus,Rybka 1.1>, <Teutates,Rybka 1.1 32-bit>, <Relic,Rybka 1.1> and so on.

Jun-06-06  Xaurus: <Dionyseus>

Why does your pictures show Rybka 2 beta as Rybka 1.2z ?

I am usng Rybka 1.2n these days and thought that would be the last version of Rybka 1.x

Jun-06-06  Dionyseus: <Xaurus> Vasik probably wants the first release version to be called Rybka 2.0.
Jun-06-06  Xaurus: <Dionyseus>Right, I see. Was it you who played with the new beta? How does it fare compared to the old version (when it doesn't crash, that is)?

WannaBe: <Xaurus> the new software is doing quite well holding its own vs. my Shredder 10. Game is being held on my forum. :-)
Jun-07-06  Dionyseus: <Xaurus> No it's Jazzled who was testing the WCCC version, I'm Leto. He was testing it at blitz 3 minutes time control, and I saw him reach over 2900 with ease a couple of times.

With 8 processors he was averaging about 240k nodes per second, compared to my 74k nodes per sec, so it was calculating about 3.25 times faster than mines, which probably indicates that his beta version was not scaling up correctly. With 8 processors, he should have been at about 600k nodes per second with perfect scaling, but getting SMP to work right is very tough and takes time.

Jun-07-06  s4life: <notyetagm: <LoFarkas: You just get sillier and sillier, AJ... Not even entertaining anymore.> That's why I like reading <LMAJ>'s posts: to see how ridiculous his opinions are>

He's oblivious to reality... it's no surprise he's a staunch right wingnut :)

Jun-08-06  Dionyseus: The SSDF rating list finally got updated today, and as expected Rybka 1.2 is dominating the list with an impressive 2931 elo against an average opponent elo of 2699! http://web.telia.com/~u85924109/ssd...
Jun-08-06  Rybka: God Bless Rybka !
Jun-08-06  Rybka: So now where are you <LIFE Master AJ> ? Rybka is 141 points higher than ur junior 9 . take it , that's the reality. Rybka = 2931
Junior= 2790
But i don't think that u have enough guts to accept the reality u are certainly one of those people who lives in fool's paradise and don't want to come out of it. Take care and be ready for the next ssdf list when deep rybka crosses 3000 barrier.
Jun-09-06  themadhair: <Dionyseus> What is Rybka's head to head record against Shredder? It seems to me that Shredder at long time controls seems to cause Rybka some problems.
Jun-09-06  MagnaPsygnosis: RYBKA is king !!! Nobody and nothing will ever beat it.... IT is pratically the best player in the universe of all time (assuming that all aliens play like GM's)

The second best Engine of all time is SHREDDER.

BUT... with DEEP ANALYSIS... i'll stick with FRITZ thanks.

Jun-10-06  Rybka: Today multiprocessor rybka is going to be released . According to experts multiple processor chess engine is nealry 40 to 60 elo points better than its single processor version ,so if every thing goes right Rybka 2 will surely have a playing strength of apprx. 3000 points. And if rajlish be able to implement the technique of compressed end game table bases into rybka ,like stephen meyer kahlen has done it into shreeder then it definately stretches the rybka's strength upto 3050. which is just terrifying. I can bet that at the middle of the next year rybka should cross 3100 elo barrier and i am pretty sure about that.

WannaBe: I'm very interested to see that software. It sounds quite formidable :-)
Jun-10-06  RandomVisitor: Message on the rybkachess.com site:

*** Note for Rybka 1 customers - until PayPal and ShareIt are set up, you can send me an email with your intention to order using one of these options and I will send you the Rybka 2.0 Beta version early.

Jun-11-06  chessmoron: I really want Rybka but still not sure what interface to buy. Shredder 10, Junior, Zap!Chess, Fritz 9 or 8 or the chessbase software
Jun-11-06  RandomVisitor: <chessmoron>"arena" is free and works ok.
Jun-11-06  THE pawn: Doesn't work for me. I have rybka (the old beta version) and it gets beaten by chessmaster.
Jun-12-06  themadhair: <THE Pawn> I have CM5OOO and it consistantly beats fritz 8 and shredder 8 on my computer. It isn't that chessmaster is better - it is just that it hogs all the system resources. When running on different computers the tables are turned.
