MissScarlett: What do we know about Stanley's wife and children? If, as Charles Henry Stanley (kibitz #45) suggests, Stanley was planning to settle back in Britain after 1860, did that involve sending for his family when circumstances allowed? Was his return to America to 1862 connected with

MissScarlett: <is there a source contemporary to Stanley that gives his year of arrival in the US as 1843?> Not that I know. Most likely a simple inference on Stanley being in England in 1842, and the US in 1844.

LoveThatJoker: The immortal win involving the doubled pawns besting the R+N that I am making reference to is this one, btw: M Ortueta Esteban vs J Sanz Aguado, 1933

MissScarlett: Now all you need to do is find a pertinent pun.

LoveThatJoker: <MissScarlett> That's an easy one,

"The Art of the Half-Point"

Pun is taken from "Draw! The Art of the Half-Point in Chess" by IM Leonid Verkhovsky - which is the book that I was referring to when I mentioned to you that I was reading one on drawing resources.

So, now that you have a pun from me (per your suggestion) on this splendid game, I have two questions for you:

1. When are you correcting the final move to 43...f6?

2. When are you making this Game of the Day? :)

MissScarlett: I corrected it two days ago.

LoveThatJoker: It still needs correcting, as the move is still on the game score as 43...Rf6.

  MissScarlett: Where?
Jan-06-23

LoveThatJoker: Just play through the final moves of the game, and you will see that its final move is unfortunately still 43...Rf6.

V Mamoshin vs V Kolker, 1972

MissScarlett: Unless you're playing through the computer annotated score, I can assure you that it's <43...f6>. Maybe refreshing the page would help.

LoveThatJoker: Can you provide me with the link to the game, please?

I have cleaned my Chrome's cache, and restarted the browser from scratch. I can assure you the game still plays 43...Rf6.

LoveThatJoker: Btw, yes, it is the computer annotated score. Why is it still showing 43...Rf6?
Jan-06-23

LoveThatJoker: The default setting for games is the computer annotated version. When anyone visits the page, they will automatically see the erroneous version.

Therefore, the priority should be to correct the computer annotated version.

MissScarlett: <The default setting for games is the computer annotated version.>

Not at my end, it isn't.

Jan-06-23  stone free or die: My default view of the V Mamoshin vs V Kolker, 1972 game is for non-annotated score.

Is there a setting in a user's profile options for that?

But yes, LTJ is right, the annotated version still shows 43...Rf6?

MissScarlett: < Why is it still showing 43...Rf6?>

The issue has been raised before. The annotated score doesn't update and can't simply be deleted and done anew. It's above my pay grade (that being zero).

LoveThatJoker: <MissScarlett> Getting to the heart of the matter, and for the overall improvement of the chessgames.com experience, can you please correct the computer annotated version?

It is important for all users such as myself, whose default setting is the computer annotated one.

MissScarlett: It can't be edited or deleted. Take it up with the tech boys.

LoveThatJoker: <MissScarlett> You posted as I was writing my last note. I guess the solution is to delete this version of the game, and upload it from scratch again with the corrected score from the ?very outset.

Otherwise, the impact and best experience of the game will be lost for those users, such as myself, whose default setting is the computer annotated one.

LoveThatJoker: Can you not take it up with tech? If not, how do I take it up with them?

LoveThatJoker: No, how do we get Tech to correct the game for both the original and computer annotated versions?
Jan-06-23
Premium Chessgames Member
MissScarlett: Understood, but I'm just advising that you can adjust your defaults. I suppose the large majority of members don't automatically see the annotated scores.

The chessgames.com chessforum is your destination.

LoveThatJoker: So you are saying that to correct this game properly, I should simply post on the Chessgames chessforum, and that someone in the technical department will possibly act on this?

LTJ

MissScarlett: Well, there are two separate issues.

Correcting the annotated score of this particular game. The score itself can't be manually corrected as with a simple PGN - it needs to be re-analysed from scratch with the correct score.

A general system change whereby games with annotated scores are flagged for review when the PGN is edited, and making the above process of re-analysis an option for the editors.

LoveThatJoker: I just wrote CG's Pete on his forum on the matter, per a fellow CG user's recommendation.

LoveThatJoker: <MissScarlett> Please furnish <petemcd85> with the corrected version of the PGN.

He can correct this.

I don't have cut and paste, so I cannot do it. Please help!
