"There are two kinds of kibitzers, those that know nothing and those that don't know they know nothing."

I'm Geoff Chandler

'Sally Simpson' is the title of my favourite Who song.

The Green Pawn? It has nothing to do with chess.com I'm greenpawn over at Red Hot Pawn and when I wrote for the Hibs fanzine in the 70's i went under the name of Green Pawn.

Me and Karpov went to different schools together.

   Jul-24-25 Victor Bologan

Sally Simpson: I see FSR and Perfidious are also keen on his book 'Blacks' Weapons' Regarding the comments about the picture of Bologan's right hand, how about using the picture of him on the back of the book (credit NIC) https://www.redhotpawn.com/imgu/blo...

   Jul-24-25 N Marache vs Morphy, 1857

Sally Simpson: <HealTheWorld> It appears you may have the translated Nimzovitch. His books in German, were they not in algebraic. By the by. The full English algebraic version of 'My System' is online. https://archive.org/details/nimzowi...

   Jul-24-25 M Catracchia vs A Murgia, 1994

Sally Simpson: I submitted this game to correct it! Chessbase here; [DIAGRAM] give 22...fxg6 which just looks wrong. There appears to be no valid reason not re-take towards the centre. Going through the rest of the game and here... [DIAGRAM] White did not play 30.Ne6 checkmate (because ...

Sally Simpson: <Hi Stone Free> " I guess all of <Sally>'s posts should first be interpreted as satire." Satire is an art form. Making things up as I go along is just that 'making things up as you go along.' The reaction I was trying to elicit was a wry smile. it's trolling and I

   Jul-19-25 L Rellstab vs L Steiner, 1937 (replies)

Sally Simpson: I missed the Knight fork on d6 and went instead for the mate. I was more interested in White's name. "Rellstab..Rellstab..." Why does his name ring bells. Found it. My post is 11 years old but this position from Estrin analysing a Rellstab game was on my board in the 70's. ...

   Jul-19-25 S Factor vs Reti, 1919 (replies)

Sally Simpson: Everyone blunders but when a player has a discovered attack lined up v your Queen our sense of danger should kick in. It's odd enough and Reti was strong enough to warrant a poke about to get any background. (was it Blitz, simul, blindfold, four days before this game Reti gave

Sally Simpson: <ofrramp> Done. Finished Donner. Really enjoyed it. The last few articles are him, understandably, getting it wrong on how quick it would take computers to beat Grandmasters at chess but in that respect he was not alone. At that time (1982) chess programs could beat ...

Sally Simpson: 1. Is Vladimir Putin the leader of Russia? (yes - if not it may be someone who is even more bonkers, so we must be careful what we wish for.) 2. Is Gukesh the World Chess Champion? (yes, he will not have to defend his title till 2026) 3. Are the 2 Beatles still alive ...

   Jul-18-25 J H Donner vs R Blow, 1982 (replies)

Sally Simpson: <Hi Retireborn> "I can't find the story in my copy of the book." I know you can't, I'm making up these Donner stories as I go along. 😊 I knew of a 1997 edition but this one is dated 2006. The article in question is 'A Touch of Flu' which was just one of the ...
