Genius, 2 posts after I said I will desist from gold brackets unless it's for voting, I use gold brackets (I don't want to risk conflicting with the voting tally).

I vote <TheTamale>'s post for Best Post: Igor Ivanov vs L Witt, 1981 (kibitz #6).

The Caissars: <So you are changing the rules of the game? This hardly seems fair. Actually, it is cheating.>

Now, now. We weighed that opinion and decided that we're remaining within the spirit of the affair, which is rather tongue-in-cheek anyhow. If you oppose this decision, then simply refuse to vote for him.

Besides, what's the worst thing that can happen? That, heavens forbid, Diceman wins the award? If that is the outcome, would you consider it a miscarriage of justice?

Let's lighten up, this is all for fun.

Penguincw: Hmm, even though I'm infamous on this site for my bad math, grammar and typing skills (and proofreading), I thought I'd give an unofficial count.

There were probably more non-voting posts than actual voting posts:

3. Most Helpful

- <Penguincw> 7
- <WinKing> 3
- <Annie K.> 2
- <harrylime> 2
- <Sally Simpson> 2
- <FSR> 1

4. Best Post

- <Stevie King>'s 5
- <latvalatvian>'s 4

- <TheTamale>'s 3

Hopefully someone can confirm these numbers are correct. Regardless, the same winner cropped up all times I counted.

(don't kill me if I get it wrong)

Jan-18-16  Karposian: <The Caissars: Let's lighten up, this is all for fun.>

Somehow you're taking much of the fun out of it, when you decide to make up the rules along the way. At least that's the way I see it.

I see you are not counting <jessicafischerqueen>'s vote for <Penguncw> as a valid vote. Oh well, it is irrelevant anyway.

Your count for the Best Post category matches with mine.

I certainly agree with <Karposian>. It is a bad idea to change the rules retroactively.

<I certainly agree with <Karposian>. It is a bad idea to change the rules retroactively.>

And I also agree. You have no right to make up rules to suit yourself.

<Besides, what's the worst thing that can happen? That, heavens forbid, Diceman wins the award? If that is the outcome, would you consider it a miscarriage of justice?>

If he had been properly nominated, there would be no problem. He isn't Bobby Fischer, you know.

And why would you think <Diceman> didn't stand a chance? He's funny. And you must think so as you entered him onto the list.

Also, any votes for him would have went to someone else. You know, those that were properly nominated.

Jan-18-16  TheFocus: I would be very interested in knowing what <Diceman> feels about this.

  The Caissars: The envelope please...

The winner of the 2015 MOST HELPFUL award goes to <Penguincw>

The best post is <Stevie King>'s Kibitzer's Café (kibitz #167564) (In the new year, I get to go back to reading Emmanuel Lasker's "Manual of Chess". "Get to?" you ask. Yes, because I imposed a period of exile on myself from the book in an act of self-discipline. ...)

Today we'll be voting on

<5. FUNNIEST POSTER>

Nominees: Abdel Irada, john barleycorn, Phony Benoni, technical draw, TheFocus, WannaBe, diceman

<6. MOST CONSTRUCTIVE>

Nominees: Annie K., AylerKupp, Golden Executive, Penguincw, WinKing, YouRang

With regards to the situation with diceman, we now regret our decision to play fast-and-loose with the rules like that. However, now that it's been done, it doesn't seem productive or polite to retract the decision. As said, if you find it inappropriate then simply do not vote for him. We will not make this mistake again.

Jan-18-16  TheFocus: <The Caissars> How about telling us how <Party Animal> won Best Avatar? Seems like you should explain that.

if this was all "just in fun" as you say, why can't you just say: "Hey, <Diceman>, sorry but we entered you against the rules, so we have to remove you from the list?"

I doubt his feelings will be hurt.

The Caissars: <TheFocus: <The Caissars> How about telling us how <Party Animal> won Best Avatar? Seems like you should explain that.> I'm sorry, are you saying that we need a recount? By my count Party Animal won by a single vote, beating YouRang 5 to 4.

SwitchingQuylthulg: I vote for <Golden Executive> for Most Constructive.

<The Caissars> As repeatedly noted above, <YouRang> won 4-3; <YouRang> got four valid votes, while <Party Animal> got three valid votes, one self-vote (which is not allowed, and in any case wasn't even a vote, just an advertisement reading a bit like a vote), and one vote after the deadline.
