Check It Out: I just applied for the chess games team at game knot, captain. I hope I am accepted, I cook a mean bbq, drink beer, and play guitar. Hope that qualifies me.

WannaBe: <technical draw> yes, I finally traced down my parents, who left me to survive on my own, but luckily, a group of nomadic Masai adopted me, and named me WannaBe (Rabbit, that breaks wind).

And I now know my real name, and turned to Google for translation, which turns out to be "Rabbit, that breaks wind, and must abandoned"!

Aug-15-12  technical draw: <WannaBe> Wow cool story. Mine just says Tzipi, which is my girlfriend Tzipi Livni. She makes my other girlfriend Angela Merkel jealous. Women fighting over you, it doesn't get any better than that.

Reaction: What?! People are puking their guts out over Windows 8 already??

Aug-15-12  technical draw: < Windows 8 > Windows? Is that still around? Oh, I'm sorry you must not be a hip Mac user.
Aug-15-12  frogbert: i see one problem with metro and windows 8: eventually people start swiping fingers over their non-touch pc screens - at least those already used to the winphone 7+ user interface.

Aug-15-12  technical draw: Do not use a touch screen while navigating the internet! Sites can pick up your fingerprint and forward it to the FBI, CIA, et al. Also certain keyboards and mice record your fingerprints and navigating history. Do not claim innocence. Everything is recorded. We are doomed.

I am so sorry that I viewed this video. I deserve to burn in h&ll for all eternity.

Aug-16-12  brankat: Hi Jim.

Do You by any chance know what has been happening with our old buddy <RonB52734>? He has not been seen around here in more than a year and a half.

Also, how is Your study of W.Shirer's book going?

Aug-16-12  technical draw: For an explanation of <WannaBe's> video above, see here:

Aug-16-12  technical draw: Payback time! Now this is a video you'll never forget!: (fun starts at 30 sec mark)

Aug-17-12  brankat: Thank You for the reply Jim.

Now You are approaching what is probably the most interesting part of the book: Sep-01-1939 to (roughly) June-22-1941.

It is a good idea to read the material slowly, even re-read some sections, if necessary, because there is so much information there to "digest".

Aug-17-12  brankat: <WannaBe> Also, I meant to ask You a number of times for quite some time now (almost 2 years), but was somehow reluctant, didn't really dare to. But I guess I might as well.

Has to do with old Joe. Do You know if he's still around? If he is, and I hope to God he is, and You're keeping in touch, then, when You have a chance, please say Hi to him for me.

Thanks!

Aug-18-12  brankat: <WannaBe> Well, lets hope our friend Joe is still OK.

"Phony War" was just that, phony. For obvious reasons. There was no fighting going on. the state of war had been declared by all parties, but as soon as Poland was defeated within about 3 weeks, that was it. A few bombs were still dropped here and there on both sides, but really nothing much.

Despite their Treaty obligations the French and the British could not help Poland. France was not ready, their Army was really a First W. War type of an army, and the French certainly didn't have the stomach for fighting. Hitler had correctly assessed the situation. It was his Generals who were scared.

The British, for all intents and purposes, didn't have any army to speak of. Nor a real air force. Only the Navy, which could be used for warfare on the seas, not in Poland. She was doomed from the start.

Hitler could have been easily stopped, and taken care of, in 1936 in Ruhr, but France hesitated, procrastinated, then looked the other way. For which she paid a hell of a price later. Hitler's bluff paid off. Even in Munich, '38 something could have been done. But the allies didn't want a battle, convinced (fooled) themselves that Hitler could be trusted, sanctioned the theft of Austria, sold out Checkoslovakia, and paved the way for the partition and destruction of Poland.

Yet, they were not to be spared a war, and under much harder conditions than if they had acted on time. As Sir Winston Churchill told Prime Minister Chamberlain in the House after Munich: "You wanted peace at ALL cost, instead You will get War."

Phony War was to last as long as it suited Hitler, till spring of 1940. Then it was Norway's turn. In the meanwhile the Allies did very little to get ready.

Enjoy the rest of the book!

Aug-18-12  brankat: As for spelling of <Rumania>, instead of <Romania>, I don't know. Actually I didn't even noticed it. I think that is how Romanians themselves spell the word, but I could be wrong.
