WannaBe: In case I forgot, congrats to them Lady Bruins. =)) U. Mich (69-63) won, but the last spread I saw was -6.5, so if you took UConn w/ spread, you got very lucky, if you bet on them U. Mich, I feel bad; the O/U was 148.5

WannaBe: <CIO> LOL. I remember those mems... <chancho> North by Norwest, totally agree, the audiences know that the plane scene was filmed earlier and played on a screen behind. It was still drama. Same thing with the Mt. Rushmore chase scene.

WannaBe: ¡Olé! ¡Olé! this is what I see for "¡Olé! ¡Olé!" (game of the day Mar-13-2026) I also know this issue have been around for a while, and it's not that important, in IT term, it is a level 'C', cosmetic fix. But I just wish to report it again. Can CG.com unify this ...

Penguincw: The newest team in the NHL, the Vegas Golden Knights: https://www.nhl.com/news/vegas-gold....

No comment really. I think just "Knights" would've been fine.

I would've chosen something like "aces", anything to match the <silver> state, or Las Vegas in general.

Seems like this new team name is getting roasted on social media. (grabs popcorn)

WannaBe: <Penguincw> Well, the Golden Nugget have been a LV casino (landmark?) forever and ever, so maybe Golden Knight would be alright, and yes, NV is known as the silver state, since the days of prospectors.

Aces would have been appropo, since it's related to cards and blackjacks and poker and everything else. =))

saffuna: Those two guys already had the act, and they wrote the dialogue. Then they pretty much disappeared. I would have thought they'd have moved on up.

I read after the first rehearsals the director said "I can still understand you, we have to rewrite it." I also saw it in a theater where everyone was Spanish-speaking and reading subtitles. No humor, no laughs.

Nov-26-16  thegoodanarchist: <I also saw it in a theater where everyone was Spanish-speaking and reading subtitles. No humor, no laughs.>

Much of humor is cultural. I think that is why dramatic cinema or theater translates better across culture and time, than does humor.

Hamlet, of course, is more renowned than The Taming of the Shrew, for example.

saffuna: Oh definitely. But in this case the "jive" language wasn't passed on to the audience at all.

saffuna: In the scene in "The Fly" where Goldblum gives the first indication he's trransforming by putting about twenty spoonfuls of sugar in his tea, in Peru it took about seven spoonfuls before people started to catch on, not three or so as in the US.

People put a lot more sugar in hot drinks there.

I don't think so. I just listened to it again and we are both wrong. It is clearly "Homme". That is, no "L" and no "S" either.

But everyone should have a listen and decide for themselves:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrZ...

"Homme" is French for "man", and I believe that later it was further corrupted to "homie" or "homey"

WannaBe: It was quite a day, almost a "Quadruple Header Day", started with UM/OSU, then Karjakin/Carlsen, then ND/USC, and ended the evening with Ucla/Cal.

Raining outside, been this way for about two weeks now (on and off rain, sometimes no more than mist, other times steady but not heavy rain).

Much needed for NorCal, after almost 5 years of drought like condition... Can't and won't complaint.

Just stayed in this 4-day weekend and enjoyed sports and followed WC Chess.

=)

saffuna: What is Cal doing playing UCLA after playing Stanford? The Big Game is supposed to be the final conference game.

And how did UCLA score only 10 points? Cal had been giving up 40 a game.

Good job, Apple... Doth make one wonder how come these (same) issues keep popping up with their software releases.

Do they even do software testing before releasing them to the public??

WannaBe: Alright, after the last Win10 (major) updates, my Internet Explorer's as unstable as ever... (Need Java for Chess Viewer Deluxe, and hence, I am still using IE)

At least 4 or 5 lockups/crashes a day, so now I am running both IE (CG.com) and Edge for everything else. This did not happen before that automatic update performed by Microsoft. Ugh!
