chancho: <WannaBe> I did all that and still it refuses to update...

I checked installed updates (last updates were on March 17) and when right clicking on the update, the word <uninstall> would show on some effing updates, but wouldn't show on others.

This thing has not uploaded in over a month. Could be corrupt files or faulty drivers.

I'm gonna drop kick this b.itch!!

WannaBe: <chancho> Do this for me:

Windows button, type in "system", click on the app. Second line, version, what does it say?

Should be something like 10.0.XXXXXX

And if you run the Windows Update, what error code is returned, something like 0xabcdefgh

Personal Log:

chancho: I tried to manually upload the update from the catalog but it would not install.

Maybe I should do Harakiri... on the laptop.

WannaBe: <chancho> For your version, it should be second one up from the bottom (in the catalog...

Version 1909 x64, 361 Meg file. I am also going to look up that error code and see what I can find.

WannaBe: <chancho> Let's see if we can restore it to a previous good point.

1. Windows Button type in "Restore Point", open the "Create Restore Point" app.

2. You should see "System Properties" and "System Protection", underneath that, is "System Restore". Click that

3. Click "Next" when the new window opens

4. Find the "Show More Restore Points" and check that box

5. Find the one you are most comfortable with. Probably the one before the last successful Windows Update. And Click "Next" and follow the directions.

chancho: The only restore point I have available is: <4.22.20 2:47 am> It will not go any further.

WannaBe: I can use my Zoom account and schedule you for a meeting, probably will need to be after 5PM Pacific time and not today...

Send me an email kstc_jyu (yahoo.com), if you want to do this, let me know if you want to do it after 5PM or sometime during the day on weekend.

And I will email you the Zoom invite.

WannaBe: <chancho> Try to uninstall one or more of the previous Windows Update, reboot and see if that will let you install new ones.
Apr-22-20
Premium Chessgames Member
chancho: Tried it, and it says an error occurred not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled.
Apr-22-20
Premium Chessgames Member
WannaBe: <chancho> fine, reboot and see if it can pick up new updates, and possibly install them.

Else we can do the Zoom thing when/if you want.

Apr-22-20  NakoSonorense: Pretty sure <WannaBe> could troubleshoot that issue in like 5 minutes via Zoom. Dude's like a magician!

Apr-26-20  technical draw: I finally got rid of the hideous I-phone and now have a cool flip phone. The I-phone had a million apps and all I wanted was just POTS. And to add to my luck I was paying $50 a month for the I-phone and now I pay nothing! My son gave me a phone on his family plan.

I swear I was going to throw the I-phone against the wall every time it rang just to give me an update. Plus it weighed 30 pounds and was awkward to carry. Good riddance!

WannaBe: Pots are now legal in many states, don't even need a fake doctor's note!! Maybe you can move to a state that is easier to obtain than using an I-phone.

Vid is 17 minutes long. But I think it is worth every minute.
