<Jer 20:10-13

Jeremiah said:

"I hear the whisperings of many:
'Terror on every side!
Denounce!
Let us denounce him!'
All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

Perhaps he'll be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.

In their failure, they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you, I have entrusted my cause.

Sing to the LORD,
praise the LORD,
for he has rescued the life of the poor
from the power of the wicked!">

<1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.>

<The Promise of the Lord's Coming

The Second Letter of Peter

Chapter 3

1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you

2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts

4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!?

5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.

7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.

11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness,

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire?

13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Final Exhortation and Doxology

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16 speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17 You therefore beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Amen.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.>
  WannaBe: It won't go the distance, I'm saying 8th round TKO, Tarver wins.
  Open Defence: <chancho> have you seen that movie "Undisputed" ? its about boxing...
  Open Defence: <chancho> I believe it was Wesley Snipes and Ving Rheames.. I normally dont like boxing but this was a nice story too.. Ving is a heavyweight champ who is sent to prison for molesting a woman a la Tyson.. while in Jail the guys in prison set up a match with this small time boxer played by Snipes...
  chancho: <Open Defence> I remember. Snipes beats Rhames.
  Open Defence: yeah i love the end of the movie when Rhames gets out and resumes his championship fights the prison guys are watchin on TV and as they announce Rhames as the "undisputed" champ the prison guys start jeering and ask Snipes "undisputed?"
Jun-07-06  square dance: <chancho> i dont think tarver will knock hopkins out. X is hard to hit cleanly. tarver certainly has the power to do it if he catches him cleanly though. my prediction is 115-113(7 rounds to 5) for tarver. i think tarver will be more active early in the fight and take most of the early rounds and hopkins will win most of the later rounds, but not enough. ive never really been a big fan of making predictions though since there are so many variables. im just assuming the most likely thing based off of their recent fights. this fight might be entirely different since hopkins is fighting at light heavyweight for the first time since his pro debut. tarver also has had to lose more weight than at any time in his career and he does have a history of fading down the stretch. the extra weight shouldnt help there. its even possible hopkins wins by late ko, or tko due to fatigue. that wouldnt surprise me one bit. i think tarver is primed to get knocked out, but i have doubts about hopkins power and activity level. X is like lots of other aging fighters, yeah, he's great defensively, but he doesnt pull the trigger enough anymore.
Jun-07-06  chessmoron: I thought the Rocky movies are also good boxing entertainment pieces. Also I like Raging Bull with De Niro playing the lead character.
Jun-07-06  themadhair: Cinderella man was also a great boxing movie. It is a rare exception to the rule that Crowe can't act.
Jun-08-06  Mendrys: <chessmoron: Why do critics say Mavs is going to win the champion? That's BS. Heat in 6.>
Because the Mavs have a better team.
Jun-08-06  Mendrys: I agree that there has been far too much gratuitous AJ bashing on certain pages. This has led to the unfortunate result that no Kibbitzing is available on any of his games he was so kind to submit. There is criticism and there is pointless bashing.
Ex. Concerning the game I Sabau vs A J Goldsby, 2003
AJ clearly states that on the first post that the Sabau was a comp user(cheater). I strongly disagree and would liked to have voiced cogent arguments against his claim on the game page. Instead:
Here is a critical position right before 21... Qg7? from this game:
click for larger view
The comp's give black the nod until 21....Qg7 and the tables start turning. After 22.Nc5 Bc8?
Instead of playing the computers suggestion 23. Qa4(Crafty and Shredder are the engines I used and came up with the move immediately.) Sabau plays the inferior 23. b5 and minimalizes his advantage. Fortunately for him Goldsby blundered with 23...Ne5 and overworks his poorly placed bishop. A Blunder 26...Qc6?? leads to mate or losing his queen. A comp user? Maybe, but if so not a very good one! Instead of accusing the victor of cheating (Like you accused Nakamura Nakamura vs A J Goldsby, 2003 in your game with him)perhaps you could give some analysis of this game, noting your mistakes AND the obvious mistakes by your opponent.
Sorry to clutter your post with this Chanco but the truth be known I typed most of this on the Sabau-Goldsby game only to find out the Kibitzing on it had been closed (even though he deserved most of the negative comments posted.) and had to get this off my chest.
Jun-11-06  square dance: so much for my prediction. if what i read was true 118-109 was the official score on all the cards. in any event it was a clear domination by hopkins.
Jun-11-06  chessmoron: LMFAO, Antonio Tarver $250,000 that he bet is going to be in Hopkins' pocket for "charity."
  chancho: Any Predictions for the Jermanine Taylor vs Winky Wright fight this Saturday?
<chessmoron> Poor Tarver must be feeling like a complete moron.
Jun-12-06  transposrule: chancho:
Jermaine Taylor in rounds 6,7,8 will break down Winky's defensive style. In rounds 1 - 5 compubox numbers will show that Winky is too busy defending and not scoring.
Fight may go the distance of 12, but very likely TKO during rounds 8-12. Jermaine will bloody Winky possibly as early as round 5.
Jun-13-06  transposrule:
Tarver got a CLOBERRATION!!!!!!!!
