| Aug-14-18 | | TheFocus: <Big Pawn> <I would pay <The Focus> to continue doing quality historical work.> Another reason for me not to leave the site is to announce here any new book I publish. Open up my forum and answer any questions that people have about my books. I should be publishing my first book through Amazon by the end of the month. Then a second one by the end of September. |

| Aug-14-18 | | Big Pawn: The Steinitz book? |
|
| Aug-14-18 | | TheFocus: Not yet Steinitz.
First one would be a famous player's best games. The second one is a tournament book. I am working on Steinitz though. I am thinking of a hardbound edition. Limited edition run. If you would like to sponsor that book, we should talk. There would be a dedication page: <This book was sponsored by the financial contributions of <Big Pawn>. |

 | | Tabanus: Yeah, and if https://www.amazon.com/gp/new-relea... puts it up, you might sell some copies too. |

| Aug-14-18 | | TheFocus: <Tabanus: Yeah, and if https://www.amazon.com/gp/new-relea... puts it up, you might sell some copies too.> I fully expect to sell copies. Why else would I spend 12 hours a day for the last 18 months writing books? |

I fully expect to sell copies. Why else would I spend 12 hours a day for the last 18 months writing books?> Speaking of chess books, do either of you know of a good book on the 1978 WCC between Korchnoi and Karpov? Anything written in Russian and then translated by a Brit is unreadable, in my experience. Those people like to show off their academic vocabulary at the expense of readability, which makes for something that <JFQ> might describe as "incomprehensible bloat". |

 | | saffuna: <big pawn><I might even buy this site. Buying websites is a regular routine for me in my line of work. This website couldn't cost that much. No more than 10K or so. That's nothing.> That's a heck of a way to honor DF's memory, suggesting the great accomplishment of his life is worth only $10,000. The idea is ridiculous, of course, and reveals a lack of business knowledge. |

Keene was one of Korchnoi's seconds. |

"accomplishment." (-21 trillion) |

| Aug-14-18 | | zanzibar: Dear people, there is reason to be optimistic. As it says in the Bible, the writings on the wall... Two little noted items from yesterday:
<sneaky sqeeky: Had dinner with Sargon last night. Today is business.> Kibitzer's Café (kibitz #236423) and,
< Sargon

Oh, and did you notice the <Live Game> finally appears to have disappeared? Miracles will be done throughout the land! |
|
| Aug-14-18 | | zanzibar: Dear <Edwin Meijer>, <I'll let them have their fun. Karma is a bitch you know.> Couldn't agree more. You asked a very reasonable question, with the right to expect a reasonable reply from all (including <everybody>). As I noted just now, there is good reason to be optimistic the roughest patch is soon over. |

| Aug-14-18 | | JimNorCal: <zanzi>: did you notice the <Live Game> finally appears to have disappeared? It has not disappeared on my phone. I didn't check other devices yet. It seems the phone display differs, for example DF is pinned as perpetual Player Of The Day. So maybe the LG is gone but my hopes are not high. |

| Aug-14-18 | | JimNorCal: Live Broadcast Page
Still there. Someone said it shuts down each night and then a script launches it again next day. |
|
| Aug-14-18 | | Caissanist: <zanzibar> I recall that Sargon mentioned that the code base is disorganized and not well documented, which I paraphrased as "spaghetti code". I'm not surprised, or even critical--it's more or less what I would expect from a 15 year-old site that was overwhelmingly the work of one overworked person. |

 | | Yorkshire Fog: <Live Broadcast> Yes, still there, and still auto-refreshes every couple of minutes, but the Carlsen dancing rook has gone. A sign of progress. Thanks CG. |

 | | Tabanus: <The Focus> I cannot find any chess book neither by Brunni, Berlinski or whatever is your real name. I'll believe you when I see it. You do have a 5-page piece from autumn 2010 in http://www.atomicpatzer.com/acn/ACN... about Arthur Feuerstein. Plus you have a library to cite from. |

 | | saffuna: How many premium members does chessgames have? |
|
| Aug-14-18 | | JimNorCal: Ah, yes! The dancing rook is gone. Tangible progress, the first I've noticed. I wonder if the hundreds or thousands of emails to CG.com take precedence over stopping the live game. Maybe so. Coverage of recent and upcoming tournaments will be on the list. We skipped right over the British Championship and Sinquefield is around the corner. I have to admit though, that stopping the Live Game will be visible evidence that CG is back under control. |
