Dec-14-12  notyetagm: <CG.COM>

Thanks for the quick turnaround on forums for Amersham, Bundesliga, and World Mind Sports.

:-)

Dec-14-12  Benzol: Maybe we should all have a get together at <WannaBe>'s place. <keypusher>, <whiskeyrebel> and he had a meet somewhere sometime ago. BTW does anybody know how Philip Irwin is doing these days? He hasn't actively posted for sometime.

WannaBe: <Benzol> Apparently he is fine, just not hanging around CG, phoned him a month ago, got his wife instead, as Phil was still in bed (at 1PM)...

Go figure.

Dec-14-12  Benzol: Thanks <WannaBe>. He must have had a late night or should that be an early morning.

:)

Dec-14-12  TheFocus: <Annie> <Then you'll only have a meeting for American site members. The rest of us, not being USCF members, can't play in a USCF event, and wouldn't have much to do there. >

I thought that foreigners could play without being USCF members?

Dec-14-12  Benzol: Since <WannaBe> has sold his place we'll have to hangout somewhere else. The West coast would still suit though as 13 hours of flying is about as much as I can handle these days. Remember I'm coming all the way from the bottom of the World. The same thing applies to <GrahamClayton> and <twinlark> as well. I'm not sure <Richard Taylor> is up for a long journey either.

Annie K.: I don't think being a foreigner would be an issue per se - as in, being a US citizen is likely not a requirement, however, paying the USCF's annual member fee most likely *is* required in order to sign up for a USCF event. This may make sense for a foreign pro entering US events with some realistic chance of winning a monetary prize, but it would be ridiculous for us amateurs to pay the price of a USCF annual member fee just to play in one event.

Annie K.: <Benzol> I'd be coming from the opposite direction, so the East Coast is closer for me, but more to the point, those coming all the way from other continents for a cg meeting would probably like to meet the (Florida-based) cg staff as well, while we're at it. :)
Dec-14-12  Benzol: <Annie K> If there was going to be a meet in Florida I'd make the effort to go further than the West Coast. Might not be great company due to jetlag though. As to playing I'd probably be only in a condition to fall asleep at the board.

:)

Annie K.: <Benzol> heh, jetlag has to be considered for sure. Solution is to arrive a day early and start with sleeping through the first day. Informal meetings may prove irresistible, ;) but nothing of consequence (such as rated games) should be scheduled for early on. :)
Dec-14-12  TheFocus: Well, my sister lives across the border in Alabama, so at least I would have a place to stay.
Dec-14-12  TheFocus: But for <Annie>'s benefit, I am sure a tournament could be arranged.

Phony Benoni: <Benzol> What? You mean we'd be expected to PLAY chess?

I'd be limited to recording the games and submitting them to the database, then compiling a collection to be made into an Historical Tournament page.

WannaBe: Not sure if that would Historical, or Hysterical Tournament Page.
Dec-14-12  Benzol: <PB> <...compiling a collection to be made into an Historical Tournament page.>

I suppose we could do our version of a bloopers reel and dedicate it to the memory of Dr Tartakover. Sounds good.

:)

Dec-14-12  Blunderdome: I'd consider the meetup if it's a costume party where we all go as our favorite chess players.

Check It Out: Book a hotel ballroom in Florida with tables, chairs, clocks, and staff, and you could have a chess party for 4 days, Thursday - Sunday. Charge entrance fees, but no governing body fees. Set up a classical section, a rapid section, a blitz section, a 960 section, and a casual (grudge match) section. Publicize the heck out of it. Hold a special dinner and some sort of awards ceremony. Just make sure there's a bar close by, a security guard, and a few beds. People would have a blast. It'd be the talk of the town around here for months, and the 2nd annual would be a highly anticipated event.

And, oh yeah - get a business sponsor.

Richard Taylor: Hi <Benzol> I did fly to the US once in 1993. It's a very long trip. I have niece in Las Vegas! Might look in on her en passant so to speak...

I have to placate my ccs. The almighty plastic...so unlikely to travel far for some time.

I'm not big on parties but have a good one on me!

Dec-15-12  chessmoron: <CG.com> Would you mind putting the final few rounds of the Men and Women rapids for The World Mind Games?
Dec-15-12  tbentley: I logged out and was able to view forums blocking views from opposing GMs for the Chessgames Challenge, so they're not very secure.

Fusilli: <cg> Typo alert. Solution to clue #24: "They key" instead of "The key".
Dec-16-12  chessmoron: <cg> Please add a link for the blitz game to Men and Women (PGNs are much more clearer on whychess.org) in the descriptions rather than a separate forum.
Dec-16-12  notyetagm: <CG.COM>

Can we please have a forum for the recently completed <5TH KOLKATA OPEN>?

Dec-16-12  crawfb5: ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There's just one thing I need
I don't care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want clues for my own
More than CG could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is clues.

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don't care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want clues for for my own
More than CG could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is clues

I won't ask for much this Christmas
I won't even wish for snow
I'm just gonna keep on waiting
Updating the data flow
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay awake to
Hear those magic mouse right clicks
'Cause I just want clues here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do
Baby all I want for Christmas is clues

All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children's
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
CG won't bring me the one I really need
Won't you please bring my clues to me

Oh, I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just want to see my clue
Posted right on top the page
Oh I just want it for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Christmas is clues

All I want for Christmas is clues
All I want for Christmas is clues

Dec-17-12  shivasuri4: <chessgames.com>, in the trivia of clue 31, you mention <Brahman> priests, but no such people exist. That should be <Brahmin> priests. Yet another case where the spelling is of considerable importance. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brahman
