   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Apr-14-08  Red October: may I ask by whom ?

Domdaniel: <Red> You may. Actually I answered already, in a politely indirect way: "Hai" being Deutsch for "shark".

It's old Whiteshark, innit. And I was only dropping by to congratulate the daft old booger on reaching 7000. And drone on about some innaresting clumping phenomena in the stats table.

But Hai ain't listening. Talk to the fin cos the teeth ain't biting ...

Domdaniel: I'm sure there are many other Dom-ignorers -- the stay-on-topics fanatics, those who want to preserve the integrity of live game kibitzing, those who don't share my sense of humour, and the odd game-inventing terrible lizard, possibly.

But I've never actually tried to post one of 'em a message before. It's delightful.

  Domdaniel: <Kokomo, continued>

They were playing Go by email, when the stones chanced to fall into the pattern known as Ko. "Is this a Ko?", she said.
He thought for a while.
"Yes", he replied. "<Ko. Come o>ver to my place and we'll sort it out by hand."

"What kind of girl do you take me for?" she laughed.

Apr-14-08  Red October: <and one of the teachers asked me if I "was on drugs".> maybe you should tell him / her that it's illegal to peddle especially around a school :)

  Domdaniel: <Kokomo, contd contd...>

The great gorilla <Koko mo>ved stealthily through the trees. If those danged humans saw him using tools again, there'd be hell to pay. The forest would be swarming with scientist types, and his missus would have to hide her knitting again. And she'd take it out on him. Koko sighed deeply at the prospect.

Finally, satisfied that the coast was clear, he took his laptop down from a nearby tree and logged onto chessgames.com. Using that fish nick had been a stroke of genius, he thought ... what stupid human would ever suspect a shark of being a gorilla in drag?

  Domdaniel: <by mistake> -- <Deffi>

Not if he's got Niels on there as well. Wasn't there a James Bond line that went something like "Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, but the third time is enemy action"?

Me, Niels ... I'd guess <mack> is on it as well. You and Jess could be immune, as only a rotten cad would put a lady on an Iggy list.

Domdaniel: Maybe he just wanted to cause a stir and get talked about. Stopping on exactly 7000 posts and Iggying all the people who might drop by to comment, then seeing what kind of reactions they had. Somewhere between a prank, a situationist gesture, a social experiment, and cyber-nose-picking.

If so, it worked.

  jessicafischerqueen: <Dom>

Thanks for your kind and humorous words!!

Actually I was the first of "us" to go on <Carcharadon Carcharias'> Iggy list. It was a good year ago too.

A few days later, he explained that he "enjoyed visiting my forum" too much "for his own good" and was "forced" to put me on ignore.

then I spent two weeks calling him every name in the book until <Eyal> I think told me to cut it out...

I'm on much better behavior these days!

Although I DID call someone an insufferable pedant today.

However, I just BANNED myself from the <Carlsen page> so I think it will be alright.

I also just put myself on IGNORE, just to be safe.

<Carcharadon> has a screw loose, and not in a "fun way" like you were saying about other insane people.

On the other hand, perhaps it is funny to IGNORE all <Frogspawn> Faculty.

remember, they tried to actually kill the whole forum, although I suppose that was our fault.

"If you and JFQ want to.. etc. etc."

HI <DEFFI>

Youll be pleased to hear I didnt kill any <Torch Bears> but I DID steal thier <Kung Fu Chicken> as instructed.

Thanks for your advice too, but with these Koreans you really have to watch your step.

Did you know they are from <Asia>?

Its a different world over here- I wish you could experience <Asia> "first hand" as well...

Mrs. Smoot (insane)

Apr-14-08  Red October: <Dom> it is more fun to ignore people the old fashioned way, really ignore them and dont even take the trouble to put them on the ignore list, that way they take the trouble to post a whole lot of things which you are not going to read and they dont even know..

HEY!!! YOU BETTER NOT DO THAT TO ME OK???!!!!

jessicafischerqueen: Oh <Dom> I forgot CONGRATUALINO on THE WINE MILLION POST MILLSTONE@@

Also, Frogspawn is now the second or third or mabye forth most popular forum.

Mine is first, then you or <MannBee> and maybe <Wilson> as well is close...

Anyways <Frogspawn> is growing at a faster rate than the rest of us.

Soon it will grow OUT OF CONTROL!!

Yeah, that's a Goldfingerism... Another one is: "The safest way to double your money is to fold it twice and put it in your pocket".

Apr-14-08  Red October: <Jess> I hope this does not change anything between us but

I'M ASIAN!!!

there I said it.. you better not laugh... yes I like Rice, Curry Papadams and Bollywood,

Apr-14-08  Ziggurat: <I just discovered I'm being ignored by someone. Actually on an Iggy List. I'm so happy. Who'd have thought old Hai-Fisch had it in him?>

Must be some kind of prank - sounds precisely like Sharky's sense of humor.

But yeah, I also remember his ignore list/quitting chessgames rampage last year.

  jessicafischerqueen: Hi <Venerable Edifice>!

I've been on his Perma Ignore for almost a year.

Heh all three of us live in ASIA!!

Gooooo ASIA!!!

I like rice too but here we call it "bop"

And we call seaweed "kim".

Which means the most popular family name in Korea is "Mr. Seaweed"!!

Apr-14-08  Red October: and sing..

Kiiim Bop! de doo de whop de Kim Bop!!

Apr-14-08

Domdaniel: Seaweed for president! Bop till you drop!

Rice is my favorite food, and India has the best cuisine to go with it.

<Deffi> Yeah, I agree about ... uh, what do I agree about, sheet, I was interrupted by a TV cable guy and lost my choo-choo of thought.

I agree about *something*, okay?

Old-fashioned ignoring, actually. Cut 'em and snub 'em ... and get every word on tape.

Domdaniel: Can I join Asia too? An island off the extreme west bit of far western Asia, formerly known as Yurp. Like the antipodes of Japan, really, sorta.
Apr-14-08  achieve: I want in too.... I was tree weeks in Soul, Korea once and almost got married...

<Ziggy> is right, as usual, about the "iggy", I think -- prank or the other thing... (I'm actually pretty sure)

Yurp in the curb
Asya's booming
recession looming

Domdaniel: If chess is model warfare ... then it is a socially sanctioned construct that lets people struggle with their 'enemies' - without having to actually shoot anyone, or even run around in the woods throwing paintballs.

Remember that smashed-up marble chessboard that had a violent fight with my laptop? Well, I just accidentally superglued myself to it.

--- ... --- ??
