Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Sep-30-08  frogbert: domdaniel, my basic feeling about you from way back, is that you are a man of honour and hence someone i have respected. i see that your situation at the moment might be a little awkward.

<It isn't really a matter of what I find convenient, as much as what I find to be *true*.>

the question is, in this specific situation, do you really want to make up your own mind about what's true or not?

<Right now, I haven't got the slightest idea what your alleged crime against Jess was, nor where the evidence went. And I'd prefer not to pursue it.>

then the honorable thing to do, is to assume that there was no crime - innocent until otherwise proven guilty. the evidence didn't "go" anywhere, imo it was never there.

i can offer you the complete log of events leading up to the point where the post calling for your help was posted in your forum. i don't need to repeat my previous comment about that post.

we can handle this like gentlemen, via email, with no further posting here or elsewhere on cg.com, whatever our conclusions might be. you will remain as loyal as you've been upto now, and nobody except you and me will know whether you contacted me or not.

<But different people have different truths.>

at some point truths stop being relative. some choices people take, though, change truth from being absolute/relative to being irrelevant. when truth becomes irrelevant, we are in trouble.

with kind regards,
frogbert

Sep-30-08  Woody Wood Pusher: Just took a look in your Schadenfreud collection...that Neo-Grunfeld was a massacre! White should be charged with war-crimes or something, that should not be allowed to happen!
Sep-30-08  Boomie: <frogbert: regarding my 2 emails in question to jfq>

One of these landed in my forum. Anyone who is interested can read it there. Although I have no clue what your problem is with jfq, I suspect you are overreacting to it. In any case, understand that Jessie brings joy into our drab, wretched forums and you don't. Please do not leave any more messages in my forum. That space is reserved for happy people only.

Stonehenge: <Woody> You probably didn't know but <LOL> is one of the forbidden words over here. <heh> is acceptable :)

And smileys are also forbidden.

Sep-30-08  Woody Wood Pusher: Why is 'LOL' not allowed here? I can see the problem with smileys because they just **** me off but LOL a development of modern English which is pretty well established now. I know 'text-speak' should have no place in school or in formal writing, but in a blog on the internet? I think that is where it belongs. IMO any campaign to eradicate this type of writing is now too late to be effective, and seeing as languages evolve of their own accord anyway, it would be ultimately artificial and pointless.
Sep-30-08  Red October: Does humour belong in music ?
Does censorship belong in Frogspawn ?
Sep-30-08  frogbert: boomie, i left a post in your forum, not one of the 2 emails i was talking about.

whether or not somone brings joy to you is rather irrelevant for some things - it's not ok to spread absurd lies, for anyone, whether one is funny or boring.

but don't worry, i'm a reasonable man and i prefer people talking to me instead of shouting lies about me. i will not write anything more in your forum, boomie. if jfq would've simply asked me not to send her another mail (in addition to the 2 i recently sent), i would also have listened to that. and i haven't posted _anything_ in her forum since april, btw.

why did i send those two mails? jfq left a post in her forum, clearly addressed to me, where she accused me of things i objected to. at the same time i was not allowed to answer that post in her forum, so i wrote a reply in my player page instead. then i sent the first very brief email pointing out that post so that she could read my reply.

then i wrote a 2nd email, just after the first one, where i pointed out a few more details regarding the post(s) in her forum. i chose to send this via email, in order to have the communication in private, without involving people that didn't need to be involved, and in order to protect her, myself and another person from negative attention from other cg.com kibitzers.

imo, people should use private communication for private issues, instead of smearing these things out over publicly available pages, with all its consequences. when i got no response and no reaction to my request to have the insulting post in her forum removed, i posted my 2nd post directed to jfq in boomie's forum, in order to make sure jfq would read my message to her. after that, most of you with chess forums got one or two messages from jfq posted in your forums, posts that overstepped the posting guidelines by miles, being in violation of points 2 and 3.

replying to someone's request, with one public part (in my player page), and one private part (the 2nd mail), and then making one additional post here on cg.com when i get no reaction to my counter-request (after having informed jfq that her request had unknowingly been acted upon already) - that is neither stalking nor harassment.

like i told domdaniel, if anyone wants to discuss this with me in a decent manner, then please send me an email, and i'll respond. i have no further information that i want to give in public. thank you.

Domdaniel: <A Frogspawn ruling> LOL is not 'not allowed' here - I may even have used it myself once - but nor is it encouraged.

If everyone who typed 'LOL' actually laughed out loud the Earth would be jolted out of its orbit and spiral into the sun. Full of Lolling maniacs.

I prefer a wry, knowing grin of complicity, myself. Heh.

Then again, since I never delete anything - unless asked to do so - I have no sanction against lollers and lollards, so they can LOL all they want.

Domdaniel: <Frogbert> Perhaps you should consider the possibility that you're not as 'reasonable' as you think you are. You seem quite rational, but you also seem to pursue things like this with a degree of obsessiveness.

Sometimes it's better to let things drop, rather than insist on being proven right.

Sep-30-08  frogbert: domdaniel, my wish was and is to be left alone by jfq (and at least one more of your friends) - i don't want to find insults about me, attributed to my real life identity, in chess forums on chessgames.com, without having done anything to harm the person (jfq) posting this thing.

this is a very reasonable wish.

also, how many of your friends here do you think would do nothing and just accept blatant lies about them in a post being posted in 10 copies in various forums, posts similar to the one i "obsessively" have pointed out is untrue?

if you had anything like a tiny idea about the harassment i've been subjected to due to my existence here on chessgames.com for the past half year, you would've understood that i'm behaving exceptionally calmly and rationally, compared to how many people would've reacted to anything similar.

so, maybe instead of guessing about my rationality and obsessiveness, you should consider letting yourself have the opportunity to learn more about why i won't accept further insults and accusations about me being added to the forum of jfq (or elsewhere) by neither her nor others. judging me without this knowledge is probably a mistake.

i appreciate that you take the time, but i still would've preferred to be enabled to speak a bit more freely. you know where to find my email address.

lastly, i don't insist on being proven right - i insist on being left alone by a very few people, so that i can enjoy being on cg.com without constantly knowing that what i say and do are being watched and stored and commented on and ridiculed and eventually used to attack me out of the blue when i'm debating with someone else. the latter has been the situation for more than a year now, due to someone's obsessiveness and lacking ability to "let things drop". i wonder if that advice actually has got an even more fitting addressee.

if you want to actually talk with me, you know how. if you simply want to end the conversation or wrap it up... well, it's your place, and i'll stop trespassing. take care.

I've sent a second <non hysterical> EMU.

I don't know if you read the first one-- I wouldn't recommend it.

At any rate, everything seems to be fine and thanks very much for your solicitous solicitousness you posted for me at my place.

I've got a long weekend and plenty of chess, and you've got the <Big Show> this weekend at <Galway Firth Cross Station> with <mack>--

I sent a bit of info about that in my EMU.

My house has reopened for <chess business>, and it's been redecorated as well.

Ok it's not redecorated, but that's only because I don't know any good <Kung Fu Scswhcay> artists.

You really are too kind.

In honor of your upcoming <MANLY CHESS STRUGGLE TO THE DEATH> weekend, I've taken the liberty of assembling a brief <photogallery> in anticipation of your IMPORTANT TOURNAMENT in the <Galway Cross Station>.

1. HERE IS THE FABULOUS VENUE FOR THE EVENT: <The Fox and Badger Arms> in beautiful downtown <Galway>:

http://www.focuspocus.org/photodata...

2. HERE IS A PHOTO OF THE LUXURIOUS LIVING QUARTERS where the players will enjoy their stay in the Three up, Two down bungalows of the <Moss Castle Inn>, which the Irish government kindly dredged and drained in honor of this prestigious chess event:

3. HERE IS A SHOT OF THE ACTUAL PLAYING ROOM-- the fantastic <Fox and Badger Arms "Hunt Ball Room and Grill">. The Brick Walls in this fabled Hall were originally laid down by <The King of the Leprachauns> in 9 AD.

4. HERE IS A PHOTO OF <GM Tam O' Shanter>, winner of last year's event:

http://polandian.files.wordpress.co...

5. FINALLY, HERE IS A CANDID AND ENTIRELY UNAUTHORIZED photo of tournament favorite <Gerry McCarthy> preparing an obscure line in the very tricky <Nimzo-Beckett Defence>, in which Black normally plays

1. (any move) Nf6
2. (any move) Nc6
3. (any move) Ng8
4. (any move) Nb8

I think I speak for us all when I say

<Good Luck to <<<Domdaniel>>> and Mack>!!

jessicafischerqueen: For non-Irish chess fans (if there *are* any), here is a position Black reached in one of the most challenging lines of the <Nimzo-Beckett Defence>:

This is the critical Opening Position reached in the exceedingly famous

<Eamon de Valera> (ponce) v. <Michael Collins> (man), Dublin 1917

White to move...

1.c4 Nf6
3.d4 Nc6
3.e4 Nf8
4.Nc3 Nb8

Position analysis--

White leads in space, time, piece activity, piece coordination, and control of the center.

However, Black has gained more than ample compensation in the <Och! Begorrah! You're nae man enough, Seamus> department.

Domdaniel: Her Majesty Queen Jess is back in form. This calls for a cerebration and a round of a plaws.

Huzzah!

PS. I look nothing like the big guy. But one of the figures on the board *does* have a certain resemblance.

To garble a bit of WS Gilbert, I could very well pass for forty-five in the dusk with the light behind me.

Domdaniel: <Woody> Congratulations -- you've been put on an 'ignore list' aka awarded an Iggy.

I'm a bit hazy on how they work, as I've never Iggied anyone. But I've *been* Iggied, and seen the same 'error - you cannot post - blah blah' message. I just wish they'd tell you *before* you went to the trouble of writing the message.

Hmm. Dark glasses - shades, man, like the original 1970s retro pair I am currently peering through - work by blocking some light. Could somebody please invent a pair of shades that blocked certain *people*, so you'd never have to see them? A sort of real-life Iggy function.

This invention would be a boon to humanity.

So what, just because I'm no longer a premium member I don't get well-wishes?! Harsh. I wouldn't be surprised if I put in my first ever 0/6 performance this weekend.

<Stonehenge> Aha, perpetuating the image of me as a blithering alcoholic, I see. Cheers!
