   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

   Jan-06-19 Anand vs J Fedorowicz, 1990 (replies)

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <al wazir> - It's not easy to go back through past Holiday Present Hunts and discover useful information. Very few people have played regularly over the years -- even the players who are acknowledged as best, <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <MostlyAverageJoe> have now ...

Domdaniel: Wesley is a man of his word. Once again, I am impressed by his willingness to stick to commitments.

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

She left her web, she left her loom
She took three paces through the room
"Oh send a bleedin' suitor in"
Said the Lady of CG.

PS. <Jess> Lammergeier blown off course by events. But I met Peter Greenaway briefly yesterday, which will be something to add to it.

The list of Russians was just a list of Russians. Wasn't there a famous football commentator from Norway or somewhere, whose team beat England? And he yelled "Margaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill, Admiral Nelson, [insert Englishmen here], your boys took a hell of a beating!"

There's probably a YouTube clip - or a whole website devoted to the memory - but I prefer my own scrambled version.

Oct-18-08  Mrs. Alekhine: Good morning.

If you'll navigate to <MY> forum, you'll see that <JFQ's> impertinence has more than adequately been dealt with.

I hope you enjoy <MY> new Forum Banner.

Regards,
Mrs. Alekhine (deceased)

Oct-18-08  Mrs. Alekhine: You know- to me, a Canadian living in Korea with no Film or Journalism accredidittion...

Just sightings of <Peter Greenaway> would be as exciting as <Sasquatch sightings> to me.

Please more inside info from <PG-13> when you get a chance?

You can ROC me, post it here, or post it over at <Frogspawn>.

To get to <Frogspawn> just click on my Avatar.

Thank you.

Oct-18-08  Mrs. Alekhine: Doh!

I forgot to "change clothes" before that last post.

What a giveaway!

Oct-18-08  valiant: "Lord Nelson, Lord Beaverbrook, Sir Winston Churchill, Sir Anthony Eden, Clement Attlee, Henry Cooper, Lady Diana, vi har slått dem alle sammen, vi har slått dem alle sammen. Maggie Thatcher, can you hear me? Maggie Thatcher, jeg har et budskap til deg midt under valgkampen, jeg har et budskap til deg: Vi har slått England ut av verdensmesterskapet i fotball. Maggie Thatcher, som de sier på ditt språk i boksebarene rundt Madison Square Garden i New York: –Your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating! Maggie Thatcher: Norge har slått England i fotball! Vi er best i verden!"

Björge Lillelien of course!

Domdaniel: This may seem like more of that <immoral zugzwang> which men are always looking for, according to <Saint Deffi the Wise> ... but I was just wondering about reproduction. Toad reproduction, I mean. Do they do it in the same way as frogs? Is there even such a thing as *toadspawn*, apart from here?

My alternative name was <The Spanish Virgins Club> ... but who wants a pile of Spanish Virgins cluttering up their joint?
