 | | Domdaniel: <hms> "Mrs Hippie" works for me. Well, not in the sense that I actually *pay* her (or her Old Man, River) ... but you know what I mean. |
|
| Oct-26-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: <Dom> didn't see you at the pre-game Drawnik bashing party on my page...but I saved you a doggy bag. Quite some game today, if Kramnik had played like that from the beginning things might be a whole lot different! There is no way he can crack Anand now though. Fawlty Towers...eh..what a classic! I actually met John Cleese once in an art-gallery, terribly nice fellow! |

 | | Domdaniel: <Woody> - <didn't see you at the pre-game Drawnik bashing party on my page...but I saved you a doggy bag> Ah, the infamous premature million-dollar bash. I was there undercover, collecting evidence. Strictly in a professional capacity, of course. Just remember - if the judge asks you what time it is, don't answer *five to ten* ... |
|
| Oct-27-08 | | mckmac: <...if the judge asks you what time it is, don't answer *five to ten* ...> Hey,that's my cue and that's time for a <BobBreak>.Which is just like a <legbreak>,except it bounces twice before reaching the batsman. Not to be confused with a <scuttler> which of course bounces three times,or a <GreatFool Dead ball>,regrettably only seen these days in beach cricket,
when the Aunties play.

| Oct-27-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: <Just remember - if the judge asks you what time it is, don't answer *five to ten* > I don't get that? Whatever you're smoking pass it over though! Kramnik won today, and I am actually pleased for him because a 3-0 shut-out would have been bad for chess. I will be happy when Anand finishes him though! Any wild opening suggestions for Wednesday <Dom>? We might see 1.Nf3 from Anand! or if 1.d4 then maybe a Grunfeld or KID from Kramnik! What a finish that would be! |

| Oct-27-08 | | mckmac: < Woody Wood Pusher > I'm smoking Port Royal and I'm almost out, sorry. <The Police Department hounded him, they called him Mr. SmithThey got him on Conspiracy, they were never sure who with "What time is it", said the Judge to Joey when they met "Five to ten", said Joey
Judge said "That's exactly what you get">

|
| Oct-27-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: <mkmac> thanks for enlightening me! Port Royal huh? I was more of a Camel man myself. |
|
| Oct-27-08 | | mckmac: < Woody > Straddling the Camel is still to be enjoyed down here.But you're an ex-smoker,right? Very wise. |
|
| Oct-27-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: Yes I gave it up almost 5 years ago now. Didn't need any fancy patches or anything, my tactic was to switch to short-cigars, didn't like 'em too much and that helped me off the hook. Too late to save my brain though! |
|
| Oct-27-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: hey <Dom> I see you were discussing the Kramnik-Anand game finish today, somebody posted <crafty> analysis for a few moves but I wanted to get a clearer picture of a possible finish and analyzed ahead a bit more. <crafty><29..Rd8 30.Qb4,Rd7 31.a6,Nb6 32.Bxb6>,axb6 33.Bxc4,Rxb7 34.axb7,Rb8 35.Ba6,Qc6 36.Rd1,Qc5 37.Rb1,Qxb4 38.Rxb4?!,b5! 39.f3,Kf8 40.Rb2,Ke7
38.cxb4!,Kf7 39.Rc1,f5 40.f3,b5 41.Rc8
click for larger viewDo you think this is plausible? I probably haven't found the best lines but it does seem Anand resigned at the correct time, despite what I initially thought. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> used to play the "English" but now prefers the "Irish" <Daniel>. You know, not one person said anything when I hit 15 million, 16 million, or 17 million posts. do you think it's just because it's a <given> what a loudmouth I am? I'm now number 3 in the <CG.com> stats for "biggest mouthed kibbutzer." And my forum would be number 1, and Frogspawn number 2, if <CG.com> hadn't been forced to delete that category due to the <giant honking fight> that happened when me and branko and wilson were racing for the number 1 spot with <spam wars>. What is the lesson in all this?

| Oct-28-08 | | Eyal: Well, as someone around here said when he was congratulated upon his 22,222nd post: <someone like <jessicafischerqueen> has considerably more posts/day and seems bound to catch up. Not that it's a competition.> |
|
| Oct-28-08 | | Eyal: <<crafty><29..Rd8 30.Qb4,Rd7 31.a6,Nb6 32.Bxb6>,axb6 33.Bxc4,Rxb7 34.axb7,Rb8 35.Ba6,Qc6 36.Rd1,Qc5 37.Rb1,Qxb4 38.cxb4!,Kf7 39.Rc1,f5 40.f3,b5 41.Rc8>
Yeah, it's decisive, and there should be several other ways to do it - for example, Qxb6 on move 33, where after a7 things would soon be over; or the same basic idea of the rook maneuver simply by 37.Qxc5 bxc5 38.Rd6 Kf7 39.Rc6 Ke7 40.Rc8. According to the press conference, Anand was already pretty much in a resigning mood after 24.a4; apparently he made some serious miscalculation when he played 23...f6? and only then realized it, though he didn't want to say exactly what it was. Perhaps that after 24....Qf7 25.Bf1 Be6 26.Rab1: click for larger viewHe cannot blockade on c4: 26...Bc4 27.Bxc4 Qxc4 28.Rxb6! At this point, there were still ways to put up a somewhat tougher resistance than 26...c4, but it probably wouldn't have mattered. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Eyal> Interesting. I played Tim Harding in a club match in Dublin about 20 years ago. I lost in a Guimard French - my suicidal habit of playing badly-prepared openings against players who've written books on them. One odd aspect of the game is that we were both working as theatre critics at the time: I suspect the universe of chess-playing theatre critics is quite small. Last I heard, he was completing a PhD on chess history. I wouldn't call myself <a Connoisseur of alternative histories/universes> - just a humble tourist, really ... |

 | | Domdaniel: <Woody> The song is Dylan's 'Joey', from <Desire>. We tend to quote his Bobness too much round here, I admit. I wrote a hideous parody version of it once, called 'Jimmy', meant to be sung in an Ulster-Scots accent: "Jimmy, wee Jimmy,
When they sent a man tae get ye
They hadda scrape him outta the spaghetti..." |

Oct-28-08
 | | Domdaniel: <Jess> Happy 19th, 23rd, and 151 zillionth posting birthdays, Your Supremacy. You are The One in this regard: certain persons who have nominally more posts have been accumulating them in a geological sedimentary fashion for countless aeons. While you <fiat lux>, frequently <ex nihilo>. Hey, does that make me a creationist? Or a flat-earther? Ou quelque espece de plonqueur, meme. I thought the Frogspawn (*Ten Thousand Lashes* variety) was stealthily creeping up on your little Fischer Shrine. But there are no flies on you, are there? Hmmm. Frogs. Flies. Zzzzippp! Tasty.
Has any obsessive/compulsive type ever actually worked out those days/posts ratios, btw? |

Oct-28-08
 | | Domdaniel: <cigarette anagrams> I just noticed that 'Rothmans' is an anagram of 'harms not'. Is that subliminal advertising? |

Oct-28-08
 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Posts per Day Calculation> Not sure, but I do know that the formula is quite simple. You simply take the <fibrinacci coefficent> of all <integer posts> and divide that quantity by the <torque> generated by a fixed quantity of bodies measured precisely in <sidereal time>. Then it's simply a matter of calculating a suitable <algotrithm> that will fit handily inside of a <Christmas Logarithm>, preferably of <peat> or some other <caroboniferous thingy>. Finally, divide by the rate of decay of the <Carbon 14 isotope> in the <interstitial> areas of <Carrickfergus>. The resultant is guaranteed to .0000000000000001 <parsecs> accuracy 99 times out of 20, on a good day. Here is the preceding equation parsed as simple logic: <If UTM says G is true, then "UTM will never say G is true" is false. If "UTM will never say G is true" is false, then G is false (since G = "UTM will never say G is true"). So if UTM says G is true, then G is in fact false, and UTM has made a false statement. So UTM will never say that G is true, since UTM makes only true statements. > I hope that's cleared things up for you.

| Oct-28-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: <Dom> I'm a fan of Bob Dylan as well, but not so knowledgeable about all his songs and lyrics that I was familiar with that one. Probably treating music as nothing more than a background to substance abuse explains why I never pick up on the words. Do you like Magnum by any chance? <Eyal> Thanks for looking at my analysis. 33.Qxb6 does indeed also look good, with the subsequent a-pawn advance 37.Qxc5 I actually thought about, but for some reason rejected it because I was worried the c-file might be closed by c4 at some point. Completely irrational of course, your continuation is better. I am just happy mine was still winning as well, and if I had swapped seats with Krammy could still have won the point! No wonder Anand called it a day with so many winning continuations for white. |
|
Oct-28-08
 | | Domdaniel: <Woody> Magnum? I'm aware of a gun brandished by Clint Eastwood, a type of ice cream, and a 70s TV detective. And a Latin word meaning 'big' ... Guess I'm missing something. |
