 | | Annie K.: Heh. I see I forgot a "has" there... truly, it is better to Google all things these days than try to remember them. :s OK, I'm off - heading home early today, as I ordered supplies for teh kittehs, and I don't want the stuffz to be waiting by the door too long. Cya laterz, optimisticallywise speaking. :) |

 | | Domdaniel: <as I ordered supplies for teh kittehs> - Catnip! Bet it's catnip!
- What are you, the noob cat in town? Her ladyship don't approve of stuff that messes with your head, except when she's doing it herself. - Meow. So what'll it be?
- Oh, yanno. Baubles. Litter. Meow. |
|
| Dec-20-10 | | crawfb5: Ok, I admit -- I have been using research assistants: http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/... I can't seem to get her sister into the spirit of the game: http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/... |

 | | Domdaniel: <craf> What's her FIDO rating? |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Domdaniel: If I'd known that the world's largest snowflake fell at Fort Keogh, Montana, I'd have had to revisit G McCarthy vs E Keogh, 2010. Just went for another stroll in the snow. Seems prettier tonight.

 | | Annie K.: <Dom: <Her ladyship don't approve of stuff that messes with your head, except when she's doing it herself.>> Heyy!!!
Heheh... ;p
<- Oh, yanno. Baubles. Litter. Meow.> Baubles? I wish. My two girls are millennium edition kittehs - 10 years old now - and have long since lost interest in toys. :( Some litter, and food. Whiskas tins for my girls - they won't touch any inferior brand ;) - and "alleycat quality" kibbles for the dozen or so cats I feed outside. My girls are still stocked on their IAMS kibbles... <craw> very pretty goggies, your girls. :) I like dogs too - and they usually love me, for some reason - it's just that I like kittehs more, plus they are conveniently lower maintenance in every way. ;) <Dom: <Just went for another stroll in the snow. Seems prettier tonight. ;) >> So, can I envy you for that snow yet? ;) |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Domdaniel: Good old Whiskas. I used to favour their 'luxury' sachets as opposed to plain old tins ... though it often puzzled me why the flavors were such human things as, say, tuna, rather than something attractive, like mouse. |
|
| Dec-20-10 | | crawfb5: <What's her FIDO rating?> I dunno, but she loves to play the Colle...
<Annie> Yes, they are two daddy's girls. I usually have at least one monitoring me at all times. |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Domdaniel: <A> 'Shekels' is a perfectly routine slang term for 'money', no stranger than 'dosh' or 'moolah' or the current word 'yoyos'. No reference to Ancient Hebrews and their brass is implied. Well, not always.
;) |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Annie K.: I give my two 'Fancy Feast' treats once a week or so. :) <though it often puzzled me why the flavors were such human things as, say, tuna, rather than something attractive, like mouse.> Heh... there's the humorous answer, which would be to point out that cats were supposedly domesticated in order to catch mice for humans, so to feed them mouse-flavored catfood - "catch mice for them" - would be rather ironic. :p Then there's the serious answer, courtesy of Justin Case... ;) Pet food production started as, and probably still is, a side product of human food production. The leftovers of the processing of meats and fish meant for human consumption are utilized in the cat (and dog) food industry. So you're not likely to find flavors humans won't eat, as the pet food producers get their raw meat cheap from the human food producers, and they are not set up to do their own "farming", slaughter and other primary processing. It would probably not be profitable for them to add all these activities to their repertoire just to offer another flavor. Another thing to take into account is, of course, that cats don't buy their own food, and the people who buy it for them can be squeamish. ;) |

 | | Annie K.: <Re.: Shekels>
I know... ;)
Not "Ancient Hebrews" necessarily, btw... Israel switched from the Shekel to the NIS only in 1986 - <I> remember that, and I'm not *that* ancient! ;p |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Domdaniel: And industrial-quantity food-grade mice are hard to source. I know. But *still*... *Locust*, maybe, as a treat? Beats that beef stuff. |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Domdaniel: The topic is of interest because I happen to live in a country formerly ruled by a pet-food magnate. One Albert Reynolds, PM in the 1990s. Can't be many of them in politics. |
|
| Dec-20-10 | | dakgootje: Also, PETA would complain if they'd sell the tastes 'mouse', 'guinea pig & bunny' or 'Wren & Robin'. Tuna on the other hand, does not have the cuteness-factor so people don't really care. |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Domdaniel: <dak> Yeah, anything that swims is fair game for the killer ape. "I'm gonna grow fins
Go back in the water again..."
- Captain Beefheart |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Annie K.: <*Locust*, maybe, as a treat?> Well, they can catch their own insects. ;) Even indoor-only pets (such as mine) encounter bugs on a fairly regular basis. I don't keep any pesticides at home. :p
Then there was the time I was living in an 8th floor apartment, and my smaller girl - the fiercer of the two, her sister literally wouldn't hurt a fly - proudly brought a dead <SNAKE> to show me. 8s Don't ask me how the thing got to the 8th floor - I'm guessing either dropped on the roof by a bird and trying to get down, or an escaped pet... I sure hope they can't climb walls (or pipes) anyway! EeeeEeeeEEEeeek - I mainly freaked out about what if the snake had bitten her before she got it, how I'd know and what I could do... 2am, I found an emergency number for snake issues and woke up some unfortunate woman, who kindly assured me that if the snake had bitten my cat, I would know by now. :s But I can tell you, I've never been happier I had cats - the idea of that snake at loose in the apartment... |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Annie K.: <dakkie> good points, as usual. :) <Dom> what, the Aquatic Ape theory? ;p |
|
| Dec-20-10 | | dakgootje: It fell down from a PLANE! |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Domdaniel: <the Aquatic Ape theory>
Yep. Some version of it anyway. These hominids swim too well and are too streamlined for total coincidence ... |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Domdaniel: And we didn't grow big brains on the savannah. Seafood coulda done it, though. |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Domdaniel: I lived two doors up from a seller of exotic pets once. Snakes kept freaking out the neighbours by emerging from their garden sheds. And baths, allegedly. Never met one myself. |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Domdaniel: I see I'm at both ends of the visible part of the 'recently solved clues' list, at least until the next domino falls. Can't be long now, can it? |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Annie K.: <dakkie> unlikely, in that area. :) Birds of prey big enough to try to carry off a snake, on the other, were around. <Dom> hmmm, I'm not a convert of the Aquatic Ape idea, but I don't have a strong opinion about it one way or the other - haven't really looked into it much. <Never met one myself.> You <do> have good habits. ;) <Can't be long now, can it?> Prophetic, dear. Just the quality you'll need to <solve> the nuklu... |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Annie K.: Ah. That makes sense. |
|
Dec-20-10
 | | Domdaniel: And that time has come.
I *might* have succeeded, had it been a game by Winter. Or even (Winter) Sulskis. Or Short vs Day. Or that kind of thing. But GM Umansky, alas, did not cross my mind. <Annie> Your thesis that clues can change according to circumstances is confirmed. I won't even bother asking if you're always right about everything. |
