Thanks for the response. I remembered! Let's see what other replies come in.

Jan-28-09  dalbertz: 1. I'm willing to be a host again.

2. I can do full time for the most part, although there may be times when I'll be out of touch for a few days at a time, possibly even for a full week during vacation time if I can't get on the internet.

3. No preference for which one to host.

Just a couple days ago I commented that

delete sentriclecub: Let me do a quick comment on this one <<G.> Include a .pgn formatted version of posted analysis.> Yes! Everybody on the team needs to understand how great and facilitative this format is! Even though it's not eye candy, it copy/pastes so well! And you can merge your work into other peoples work in just 2 clicks!>

I agree completely and encourage those of us who think .pgn posting looks like puke analysis, I have forced myself to read Hugin's .pgn and load into fritz; I have to say, although it looks so disgusting and vile, it really is flawless in terms of communication between chess teammates.

I'm not pushing for it to be a requirement, but this is a well read forum, and encourage people to venture a little bit out of their comfort zone and learn something new.

Jan-29-09  capafan: <kutztown46>Very good job explaining the new system. It will be important for the forum hosts to work and communicate closely together. If this occurs, any hiccups can be dealt with expeditiously. It will also be important for you to play hall monitor...I am not sure whether or not this will mean less time for you until the system has worked out all the kinks.

It appears as if you will have no trouble identifying the four forum hosts although it might make sense to have one or two in reserve.

One critique, I am still unsure I like the characterization of the main line as Deep Rybka's top pick unless we have no clear alternative. In GMAN 1, GMYS, GJT and GMAN 2, we have had the situation where our best main line did not agree with Deep Rybka, although this was certainly the exception. I believe too many dissidents will roll their eyes at this characterization as merely an attempt to ensure Rybka's dominance over any other choices which is not the intent of the new forum system. Otherwise good job.

Let me know how you decide to break up the hosting duties. As I am sure you have been following the conversation, I am still working on <kwid> to provide the crux of the summary analysis by giving him a summary in pgn form...I could be selfish and say I would like him at my forum, but honestly I believe if he agrees, he would be best utilized within the main line forum. How we accomplish this can only be worked out after you have allocated the forums.

Thanks for all the hard work...

Yes, I intend to pay close attention in the beginning to make sure things are going as we hope and intend.

Regarding your concern, I have an idea. What if we change the name of the <Main Line> forum to the <Starting Point> forum? I agree that we do not want to imply any kind of "official endorsement" of the <RV> best line. Nevertheless, it is true that many analysts on the team will use that line as their starting point. Therefore, I think we MUST have a forum corresponding to that line. But maybe a more judicious choice of a name for it will prevent or minimize the rolling of the eyes by some.

Jan-29-09  capafan: <kutztown46> We are getting there...

How about the "Base Line" forum rather than starting point since <RV>'s top line is the base line for most analysts? Sounds slightly more sophisticated than "starting point."

a few administrative questions/comments:

1. I am assuming we will have a separate "sticky" for each game since they more than likely will overlap. Link available when?

2. I am also assuming, therefore, that we will have a separate analysis tree (which will require a separate link) for each game. Link available when?

3. For now I intend to only post my suggested guidelines on my forum and not on the sticky. I have a newer version in my forum header should you wish to review.

4. For now I intend to only post my Analysis Tools, Techniques and Links on my forum but if we could have someone else review the information and incorporate it as they see fit with the information that already exists on the sticky, that would be helpful...I am currently consolidating the information I got from <YouRang>, <ajile>, <hms13> and others on sliding analysis into a help tool which can be posted in the same place.

All for now...

Jan-29-09  Brent Baccala: I'd suggest having an editor for the analysis tree; someone responsible for making sure that the conclusions that are reached in the forums and the main kibitz get reflected in the tree.

Yes! <Base Line> sounds better than <Starting Point>.

There is indeed a separate sticky for each game. The sticky for the GMMU game already exists although I have not asked anyone formally to maintain it. I will, though.

<jepflast> has said that he can support more than one AT. I asked him yesterday at his forum if he could get the tree going for the GMMU game.

<hms123> maintains a forum called <TeamMemberAdvice> which is intended to provide guidance to and answer questions from team members, especially new ones. I suggest you work with him.

  kutztown46: <Brent>

We encourage analysts to post their own findings on the AT. Unfortunately, not all do, and I would like to recruit someone whose responsibility would be to make sure that all lines get posted to the tree.

Would you like to do it? Pretty please?

Jan-29-09  capafan: <kutztown>I have tentatively completed the structure of my forum... I would welcome your comments.

I am still working on putting together the engine analysis information, but <hms123>, <YouRang>, <Artar1> and others have supplied some very good info that I can use.

  kutztown46: <capafan>

It looks more like an encyclopedia than a forum! Lots of info there, but as long as it's well organized, it should be good.

Jan-30-09  capafan: <kutztown46>In a perfect world, all of the latter information on my forum would be transferred to <hms123> and the sticky and the posting guidelines also, that is why I included them as links rather than hard coded in the forum itself. However, this is only an experiment and it is best to keep it isolated into one forum for now...

<kwid> declined my offer and I am now searching for someone else to assist in summarization although I will commit to providing the structure if someone will just provide the annotated analysis. Ideas?

Jan-31-09  hoodrobin: <kutz> I don't know if the New Forum System will work; I believe it could be a great fun and learning tool.

I believe it will work. If not, we will adapt and move on. Thanks for your support.

Feb-01-09  mckmck: <1. Do you wish to host a forum with this new setup?>

Yes.

<2. Are you interested in hosting a forum full time or would you prefer breaks?>

Please clarify your answer to #2.

Yes, you will host full time, or yes, you want breaks.

Thanks.

Feb-02-09  mckmck: As of now, no breaks needed.

It may change based on future circumstances.

We have four now, but I wanted to give the others who have not responded a bit longer to do so.

<ajile> had previously stated that he was willing to host a forum again, but that was before the new setup was thought of. Now I can't seem to get his attention.

So far you are the only one to express a preference for the careful forum, so I'm sure that won't be a problem.

Feb-02-09  capafan: Noted.

BTW, <ajile> recently responded to one of my questions and said he had recently had a back injury...maybe one reason he is less available.

Feb-02-09  ajile: My forum is available for hosting. One game at a time though so choose which game you want to use it for.
Feb-02-09  ajile: I just read the new formats and have a few comments.

Given the Team's history I'm not sure the Aggressive and Creative forums will get much action since even if they find interesting moves the Team as a whole won't vote for them. After a few weeks when this becomes apparent people will stop analyzing Aggressive or Creative lines because their ideas will not be implemented.

The Team so far has consistently demonstrated a Careful/Solid/Rybka based style of playing. In fact it's very difficult to get a non-Rybka line considered or played at all.

Given this I would suggest Main, Careful and RV forums. As an experiment we could try a forum which combines Agressive/Creative to see if it gets any action. However I believe based on my above comments that even this will not last beyond a few moves.

Thank you for your continued willingness to help with the forum system. Thank you also for taking the time to give me honest feedback. I appreciate dissent when presented professionally, as you have done.

Maybe you are right. I am hopeful, however, that the new approach will be superior to me assigning moves to each forum. I agree that the team is often predisposed to playing the <RV> best line and is loath to play moves perceived to be risky. However, I hope that the new structure will provide an improved way for advocates of those moves to organize and present their case to the team.

At the present time, including yourself, I have five team members willing to fill four spots. Desiring to maximize the probability of success of the new format, I hope you will understand my preference to utilize forum hosts who are excited about it. I will therefore keep you in reserve, and if we have to jettison the new system and go back to the old system, I hope I can count on your help.

Feb-03-09  ajile: Sounds good. My forum is available as a backup.

kutztown46: I don't think any of the other forum hosts are going to respond. So here is the lineup we will start with:

<Base Line Forum> - <dalbertz>

<Aggressive Alternates Forum> - <mckmck>

<Careful Alternates Forum> - <capafan>

<Creative Alternates Forum> - <Red October>

<ajile> will be our spare forum host.

My plan is to start the forums at about move 5.

I will make a few changes to my header and inform the team, but I will wait until it is not our move.
