 | | playground player: Mayor Warren Wilhelm (dba "Bill De Blasio"--why won't he use his real name?) seems to have incredibly exalted notions of his authority. Maybe he's jealous of Bloomberg banning large sodas and wants to outdo him. It truly mystifies me that people continue to elect Democrats to public office. |

 | | playground player: <diceman> Bad enough tickets to a game at Yankee Stadium cost $250 and up. But after all that, you can't even get a hot dog? Liberalism--all bad, all the time. |

Apr-26-19 | | Count Wedgemore: <playground player: It truly mystifies me that people continue to elect Democrats to public office.> I was just making that point on the Rogoff page. Indeed, it is a mystery. Most of your big cities are run by, and have been run by Democrat mayors for decades, at least most of the time (I know there are exceptions, like Giuliani in NYC in the 1990s-early 2000s, but it doesn't seem to happen that often). And they have a horrible track record! How is it possible? Look at Chicago: I've never been there, and I know I'm seeing this from the outside, but it seems to be a mess; violent crime is rampant, street gangs terrorizing neighbourhoods, corruption scandals, etc. Yet they keep electing people with a (D) behind their name.. |

Apr-26-19 | | diceman: <playground player: <diceman> Bad enough tickets to a game at Yankee Stadium cost $250 and up.> Don't forget the $40 it costs to cross
the bridges. Liberalism has an unquenchable thirst for money. |

 | | playground player: <Steamed Colleagues> And now we've got a seminary president saying belief in Christ's resurrection is not "necessary" for Christians. https://leeduigon.com/2019/04/27/se... And they wonder why their flatline churches are tanking. |

 | | playground player: <Esteemed Colleagues> Does this make the grade as an all-time science fail? They've managed to lose a 200-foot-long dinosaur. https://leeduigon.com/2019/04/30/lo... Amphicoelias, we hardly knew ye. |
|
Apr-30-19 | | Count Wedgemore: Incredible story. I'm sure it will turn up someday..but where? LOL. |
|
Apr-30-19
 | | Diademas: <They've managed to lose a 200-foot-long dinosaur> Wouldn't that be a bit misleading given that what was lost/stolen/disappeared some 140 years ago was a 8.9 foot long dorsal vertebrae? |

<Lee> To find your forum, just look on the menu at the bottom of every cg.com page. Click on "your profile" and you will instantly be transported to <Chez pgp>. From left to right, the bottom menu reads
<home | about | login | logout | F.A.Q. | your profile> If you click on "home" you will be transported to the cg.com "front page." I don't know what happens if you click "about."
And I don't want to know... |

Speaking of dinosaurs, <Ray Harryhausen> invented them, if I remember correctly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fID... |

 | | playground player: <jessicafischerqueen> Thanks for the clip from <The Valley of Gwangi>, one of my favorite movies. I'll never forgive that stinker Carlos for spearing the Styracosaurus. And thanks for the tip, I didn't know about "your profile." <Diademas> As is so often the case with dinosaurs, all they had available to study was that single vertebra, plus a few scraps. From the size of the vertebra, comparing it to similar bones in other, better-known dinosaurs similar to the Amphicoelias, they extrapolated the whole animal's size. A complete skeleton is almost unheard-of in dinosaur paleontology. |

Yes, but it is kind of a tall order to pull something complete out of the ground after more than 65 million years. (Although something tells me you don't buy into that.) Never the less; remarkable finds has been done. Here is one example.

 | | playground player: <Diademas> Thanks for the link. "Sue" was a one-in-a-million discovery. As for the dating of fossils, I've become a complete agnostic about that. Every time they invent a new method, they get new dates. |

 | | playground player: <Esteemed Colleagues> I will turn 70 this week. Good grief! Oh, well. Like they say, 70 is the new 69. |

May-07-19 | | Count Wedgemore: <playground player> Nov.8? Then you must have had a splendid birthday celebration on Nov 8, 2016! |

<Lee> November 8! That's grand. It gives me extra time for choosing an appropriate gift for the good <Mrs. pgp>. QUESTION: Does <Mrs. pgp> actually sign her personal checks "Mrs. pgp"? I would love to live in a world where that kind of thing really happened. |
