Oct-08-09  YouRang: Woo hoo! Dodgers score 2 in the bottom of the 9th to beat St. Lous 3-2, and lead the series two games to none. :-)

WannaBe: These baseball umps are blind, blind!!! There were a major blown call at 1st base last night between Angels-Red Sox, and a <MAJOR> blown call between Twins-Yankees, in extra innings, no less...

Embarassing, just embarassing...

Phony Benoni: Take me out to the ballgame,
Take me out to the cold,
Buy me some coffee that's piping hot,
I won't care if the temperature's not
Over twenty-seven at game time
With wind chills that are a shame,
And there's ONE
TWO
THREE feet of snow
At the old ball game!
Oct-10-09  Jim Bartle: Can't have the national pastime going up against the NFL, can we?

And concerning the bad calls, in the playoffs they put extra umps down the foul lines and the STILL can't get the calls right?

Nice song, PB! A latter-day Tom Lehrer.

WannaBe: I like Dodgers chances meself!! And today, they are +150 in Game 3, are they going to sweep the Cards like they did against the Cubs last year!?
Oct-10-09  dakgootje: play-off odds are normally quite right on the spot, so if they are listed as mediocre dogs (like +150), there surely is a reason behind it :P

think one of the main reasons is that padilla doesn't go that many innings and the dodgers' bullpen might not be all that well-rested.

but well, haven't followed baseball for some time now so don't ask me ;)

Oct-10-09  chessmoron: Say it with me now: Dodgers is going to the Finals! Dodgers is going to the Finals! Dodgers is going to the Finals!

Phony Benoni: What? Did the Los Angeles Witches win another one?

I'm not impressed. I think that either the Colorado Hoovers or Philadelphia Sandblasters can burst their bristles.

WannaBe: I'm more worried about the Los Angeles Dust-pan of Anaheim than any other team...

Both the local SoCal teams are red <<<<HOT>>>>!!!

Phony Benoni: It's good to know that your SoCal teams are local. At least somebody is trying to fight the epidemic of obesity.
Oct-10-09  Thrajin: Yes, tablebases are allowed in gameknot correspondence. So are openings databases, annotated games, chess books etc. You can't use a chess program during the game to analyze, though you may conduct analysis with a chess program before or after each game. Also, you aren't supposed to consult a friend for move suggestions.

Overall, the (gameknot) correspondence rules are pretty relaxed, I think.

WannaBe: <Thrajin> Thanks Cap'tn!! I know about the (rules on) opening, books, etc... Just wasn't sure about tablebase.

I have consulted with end-game explorer on CG before, but it's not quite the same as having a perfect end-game play...

Oct-10-09  Where is my mind: <I know about the (rules on) opening, books, etc... Just wasn't sure about tablebase.> Me neither! That is interesting. So that is once the game is down to 6 pieces or less you can use one. Thanks <Thrajin> and <WannaBe>.
Oct-10-09  hangingenprise: wannabe: you better be concerned about the angles! they will give the yankees a battle, and will be in the world series.
Oct-11-09  Jim Bartle: "Both the local SoCal teams are red <<<<HOT>>>>!!!"

Let's not forget what happened the last time two neighboring California teams met in the Series.

Oct-11-09  Thrajin: <WannaBe> and <Where is my mind>,

Here is the database rule, as it appears on the gameknot website:

"You may not use chess engines nor chess computers to help you decide your next move. You may not consult with anyone nor ask for advice about any of your games in progress (nor provide such advice to other GameKnot players about their games in progress, whether solicited or not). You may analyze games with chess engines after they are finished. You may consult chess books or game/move databases at any time. "

http://gameknot.com/pg/pol_communit...

It says you may consult game/move databases at any time. Certainly the Nalimov endgame tablebase qualifies as a move database. If not, then I know a lot of people (including myself) who have been cheating in correspondence chess, so I certainly think it's perfectly legal according to the posted rules.

Oct-11-09  Where is my mind: Ah right thanks for clarifying <Thrajin>.I've only recently found out about tablebases in last few years and wasn't sure what they were or how they worked. So I forgot about using them in correspondence games.
Oct-11-09  hangingenprise: how did you like that angle comeback in boston to win!!
