May-26-16
 | | WannaBe: That was quick, 2-1 PIT. |

May-26-16
 | | WannaBe: Pittsburgh win!! Will host San Jose for the Cup. Game 1 Monday!! |

 | | Penguincw: Woah, the Pens lift the Prince of Wales Trophy.
Anyway, I <wanted> to see a STL-TBL final. Great... But in the finals, I'll probably cheer for the Sharks. Not saying they'll win. |
| May-26-16 | | Jim Bartle: <Woah, the Pens lift the Prince of Wales Trophy. > I thought it's tradition never to touch the Conference Title Trophy, as the job isn't done yet. |
May-26-16
 | | WannaBe: <JB> No, it's the Lord Stanley's Cup that you don't touch. |
| May-26-16 | | Jim Bartle: Really? You mean before you win it. Once a team has won the Stanley Cup they do all sorts of strange things with it. |
May-26-16
 | | WannaBe: <JB> Correct. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tradi... Scroll down a bit to "Touching the Cup".
Don't touch (my) cup, either. |
| May-27-16 | | Jim Bartle: Looked at the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6E... Crosby took the trophy but didn't hold it up, didn't skate around with it, and none of the other players touched it. I don't know a thing about hockey, and have yet to see a puck go into the net in real time, but it sure has some cool traditions. Starting with the handshake line. |
May-27-16
 | | WannaBe: <JB> Two others at the podium also held it, hence, they touched it. According to the audio, the video only showed Crosby. So, 3 players on the Pittsburgh team touched it. Yes, other players did not touch it, as hockey is (very) superstitious, possibly more than baseball and not talking to pitcher for no-hitters and step on foul line going on/off the field between innings. Handshake line is the best, now baseball have somewhat adopted it, where at the end of the series players and managers meet at home plate to shake hands. Play-off beards are my favourite, now baseball have also adopted it, and to some degree, football. |
| May-27-16 | | Jim Bartle: I have looked at some old hockey games. It seems to me back then the goalies were well-padded but basically the pads just covered the body. Today the pads look so huge they seem to block the entire net. |
| May-27-16 | | Jim Bartle: I think I remember a conference champion a few years ago where the team captain just left the trophy on the table and the entire team went back to the locker room. |
May-27-16
 | | WannaBe: <JB> I believe it, (not going to bother looking that video up...) team's goal is the Cup, not some Prince Wales Trophy. =)) |
May-27-16
 | | WannaBe: Yes!!! LAD tied it up vs NYM!!! |
May-27-16
 | | WannaBe: That was quick, 6-5 NYM, walk off HR... |
| May-28-16 | | thegoodanarchist: They add names to it every year.
In 200 years the Stanley Cup will be too heavy and big to lift! |
May-28-16
 | | WannaBe: Not true, when the lowest band or ring of the trophy (bottom) is filled, the top (large band) gets removed and sent to the hall. The Cup's weight is constant. |
| May-28-16 | | thegoodanarchist: <WannaBe: Not true, when the lowest band or ring of the trophy (bottom) is filled, the top (large band) gets removed and sent to the hall.> OK, thanks for the info
<The Cup's weight is constant.> For that to be true, wouldn't everybody on it have to have the same name? Surely engraving "Orr" removes less weight than engraving "Hjalmarsson"?" |
May-28-16
 | | WannaBe: <thegoodanarchist> I'm gonna have to hurt you now. =)) |
May-28-16
 | | WannaBe: 6-0 LAD over NYM, bottom 7th. =))
Noah getting hisself tossed was not a good decision. |
| May-29-16 | | thegoodanarchist: <WannaBe: <thegoodanarchist> I'm gonna have to hurt you now. =))> My keen observations on minutia are not everyone's cup of tea :) |

 | | Penguincw: Yay! Dodgers win, remain 5 games back of the Giants, 2.5 of the Wild Card. Meanwhile, Jays lose, 5 back in the division, 3.5 in the WC. Interesting day of baseball. Price makes his return to Toronto, I managed to see the whole game live. On Encarnacion's home run, my cousin's friend managed to retrieve the ball (closest I'll ever come to catching a ball; I was not at the game, as I saw it on TV). And of course, the Dodgers won, but neither Kershaw or Colon picked up the decision, thanks to Granderson's late, game-tying RBI triple. Grr Granderson in this series... In other news, the Royals rally late (again), and the Yankees win despite just 1 hit (first time since 1913). Not the first time it's happened this season (Apr/04 SEA @ TEX and Apr/29 KC @ SEA). |

 | | WannaBe: <Penguincw> Total chaos tomorrow in North California. As Monday is a US (Memorial) Holiday to honour our soldiers' ultimate sacrifice. But NBA and NHL also decided to schedule game 7 and game 1 on the same day... And them Sharks and Warriors are playing, an hour apart. |

| May-30-16 | | thegoodanarchist: <WannaBe: <Penguincw> Total chaos tomorrow in North California. As Monday is a US (Memorial) Holiday to honour our soldiers' ultimate sacrifice. But NBA and NHL also decided to schedule game 7 and game 1 on the same day... And them Sharks and Warriors are playing, an hour apart.> That really is inconsiderate. In the case of a two-sport player in hockey and basketball, if by chance both of his teams made it to the finals of both leagues, he wouldn't be able to participate in both games. Really shows how inconsiderate both leagues are. |
May-30-16
 | | Penguincw: Not to mention the Twins in Oakland today. No? The 2 worst AL teams battling, not interesting? But if I were a Bay area fan, I wouldn't be too pleased (I mean, if one team is losing, you could always switch to the other, but yeah, I get what you're saying). Luckily, should the Warriors win and play in the NBA finals, there doesn't look to be any day where both leagues play on the same day. |
