After winning the 2000 Fujitsu-seimens giants rapid tournament by a huge margin,Anand defended his title at the newly-christened Mainz chess classic in a 10 game match-a tense match that was drawn 5-5. Anand then showed his pure skill at the blitz tiebreaks and won 1.5-0.5
