1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e6 6.Bg5 Be7 7.Nb3 This unnecessary move allows ♗lack to equalize easily. a6 8.Qd2 h6 The last two ♗lack moves are the same as in the game Alekhine-Frydman at ♙odebrady 1936. 9.Bh4 0-0 The last three ♗lack moves have been developing an indirect threat on the pawn e4. 10.Rd1 Thus an error would have been 10.0-0-0 ♘xe4 11.♗xe7 (11.♘xe4 ♗xh4) 11...♘xd2 12.♗xd8 ♘xb3+ 13.axb3. Qc7! Again ♘xd4 is a threat. 11.Bg3 Rd8 The d-pawn is sufficiently guarded now, so ♗lack's attention is directed towards an attack via the c-file. 12.Be2 b5 13.a3 Bb7 14.Bf3 An inactive square for the bishop, better 14.f3. Nc6 Finally! 15.0-0 Ne5 16.Bxe5 dxe5 17.Qe2 Rac8 ♗lack now has the pair of bishops, the open c- and d- files and a strong center limiting the activity of White's knights. 18.Rxd8+ Rxd8 19.Rd1 Rc8 20.Rd3 The threat was 20...♗xa3. a5?! Unnecessarily fast! The b5-pawn should have been guarded first. 21.Nxb5 Qxc2 22.Qxc2 Rxc2 23.Rd2 Rc8 24.Nxa5 Bxe4 25.Be2 Bd5 26.Nc3 Bd8! 27.Nc4 not good, but also after 27.♘xd5 exd5 28.♘b3 black's center is worth more than White's passed pawns. Bxc4 28.Bxc4 Ba5 29.Bf1 Bxc3 30.bxc3 Ne4 31.Rc2 Ra8! After 31...♖xc3 32.♖xc3 ♘xc3 White's distant a-pawn is a good compensation for ♗lack's pawn plus. ♘ow ♗lack will blockade the passed pawns and try to win with the center pawns. 32.f3 Nc5 33.Ra2 Na4 34.c4 Kf8 35.Kf2 Ke7 36.Ke3 Kd6 37.Rd2+ Kc6 38.f4 Nc5 39.Ra2 e4 The bishop is shut in now. 40.g4 f5 41.gxf5 exf5 42.h4 Rb8 ♗lack finally penetrates the White camp. 43.a4 Rb3+ 44.Kd2 Kb6 45.Be2 Ka5 46.Bd1 Rh3 An ideal position: the passed pawns are blockaded, but ♗lack's rook is free. 47.Rb2 e3+ 48.Kc2 Rh2+ 49.Kb1 Rxb2+ 50.Kxb2 Nd3+ 51.Kc3 Nxf4 52.Bc2 g6 White is finished now. 53.c5 Nd5+ 54.Kd3 Nb4+ 55.Kxe3 Nxc2+ 56.Kf4 Nd4 57.h5 g5+ 58.Ke5 Nc6+ 59.Kxf5 Kxa4 0-1
