Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-12-03  refutor: 21. ... g5 was an interesting move by Alekhine. saccing the h-pawn to exchange off the queens. i guess he saw that white wouldn't be able to accomplish anything up the h-file?
Aug-12-03  Calli: 44.Rh6 is a mistake. Puts the rook under attack by the king. 44.Re6+ is much better because if 44...Kxf5 then 45.Rh5+. Kind of the obvious move after Re1+, but White must have miscalculated or inverted moves in his head.
Aug-12-03  Calli: Took another look with the computer and the ending is mistake filled. 44.Rh6? is bad as noted before. But Alekhine's 44...Kg5? is also wrong. 44...Kxf5 is correct. Finally 45.Rg6+? gives it back. White can play 45.Rxd6 with drawing chances.

Ahh Rook endings!

Aug-12-03  Sylvester: Which computer do you have Calli?
Aug-12-03  Calli: Right now, CBlight (its free) with Fritz (v5, I think). But have also used Rebel and Chess Assistent. Really doesn't matter much. The best thing is to use the computer to investigate the lines that you think look promising. That way you get 4 or 5 moves deeper into the position, rather than just looking at the computer's best initial move.
Jun-17-11  dull2vivid: To bring it back to the human aspect, Alekhine was in some dire straights, but his energy came bustin and carpe the game. Enthusiasm to affirm potential.
May-13-18  jabinjikanza: A great win to alekhine
May-13-18  whiteshark: < Calli: Took another look with the computer and the ending is mistake filled. 44.Rh6? is bad as noted before.>

This sac reminded of something Fischer played, but I can't think of it right now.

Sep-11-18  jabinjikanza: Always acculate and Sharpe when playing
Sep-11-18  WorstPlayerEver: Very nice puzzle for White after 27... Rh8.
