Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-28-04  InspiredByMorphy: 8.e6 looks better for black. I dont understand how the game is a draw after 27.Bxc4 White is a pawn up, and it is a pawn which appears to have the threat of promotion.
Apr-28-04  Benjamin Lau: I also think that Gelfand should definitely have played on. He may have overestimated the bishop pair, which looks pretty good, but a pawn is still a pawn.
Apr-30-04  InspiredByMorphy: I think 8.Ba6 9.Nc4 Bxc4 10.Bxc4 e6 would have led to a more open and manageable position for black.
Apr-30-04  Benjamin Lau: I believe 9...Qc7 is superior in your line (black should not cede the two bishops so readily) but it is probably a matter of taste and 10...e6 is certainly undesirable. I think the f3 line of the Benko is overrated.
Apr-30-04  InspiredByMorphy: <Benjamin Lau> <I think the f3 line of the Benko is overrated.> Your probably right, as I looked into it and couldnt find an actual name for it (which doesnt necessarily mean its no good, but if it was very good there probably would be a name). It is interesting though, and worth looking into how to properly play against it.
