Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-20-04  patzer2: Ostojic wins a nice game in this Grob reversed using conventional development, along with a few tactical surprises, against its main proponent IM Michael Basman. This is no easy task, as the Opening Explorer indicates Basman has won most of his games with this setup as Black, including some notable games against strong opponets, following 1. e4 and 1...g5!?

Of particular interest in this game are the surprising moves 11. Qd3! and 12. Qc4! using tactical threats to enhance White's development and strengthen the position.

Apr-22-04  patzer2: Note that Black should not try and "win the White Queen" with 36...Rd1+??, since 37. Qxd1 Nxd1 38. Re8+ Qb8 39. Rxb8+ Kxb8 40. Kxd1 also drops the Black Queen and leaves White up a piece with an easy endgame win.

In the final position, Black resigns since the threat of 64. Ra8# can only be delayed with losing lines such as 63...Rb8 64. Rh7 or 63...ke8 64. f7+ .

Nov-21-14  StupidQuestion: What happens if on 11... or 12...fxe3? Thanks!

Here's the position...two home visits in succession, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that.

<StupidQuestion: What happens if on 11... or 12...fxe3? Thanks!>

A little late, but: 11....fxe3 12.Qg6+ Kd7 (12....Ke7 13.Qxg7+ Kd6 14.Nb5#) 13.Qxg7+ Ne7 14.Qxf6.

12....fxe3 isn't so bad, but White regains the piece after 13.Qf7+ Kd7 14.Qxg7 with the better game.
