Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-27-13  YoGoSuN: Clever endgame play from Euwe, extracting the full point: I know I would've botched it somewhere!

FSR: <YoGoSuN> Baay was the one who botched it. The ending should have been a draw, as in Korchnoi vs Karpov, 1978. The critical point arises after 62.Kd7:

Per the Nalimov tablebases, http://www.k4it.de/index.php?lang=e..., Black draws with <62...b4!⬜ 63.axb4> 63.Bxb4 Ka8 is a dead draw. <63...Kb6!⬜> Not 63...a3? 64.Bc5! (controlling b6) a2 65.Bd4 Ka6 66.Kc6 . <Then Black plays ...Kb5, pushes the a-pawn if necessary to deflect White's bishop from defending b4, and ...Kxb4=. Note that Korchnoi played 79.Bb4 to avoid ...b4!>

FSR: Could be a Thursday-ish puzzle after 62.Kd7 (see above). Black failed to solve it.

perfidious: Poor Black probably Baayed at the moon on realising he had blown his opportunity to draw this game.
Mar-10-14  Xeroxx: E-Baay.

FSR: The player of the white pieces, normally very polite and proper, remarked <Euwwwwe!> in revulsion at the sight of Black's blunder on move 62.
Apr-16-14  YoGoSuN: Yes, that was a good catch <FSR>. It always astonishes me how counter-intuitive it is that as one reaches the endgame, things don't become simpler, but devilishly more complicated!
Apr-16-14  Bobby Spassky: Dear FSR,

Don't you mean "Euwe-Baay"!

Feb-05-19  DonChalce: great combo by Dr. Euwe here!
