Dec-26-13  john barleycorn: In my private game collection I have this game as Stoljar-Serebrijskij and Tallinn 1945 as venue. Maybe the chess historians here can help to clarify.

The game ended with 16....Kd8 17. Qd7++ according to the score I have.

perfidious: One wonders why Black did not play the obvious refutation 9....Qxg5.
Dec-26-13  john barleycorn: <perfidious> absolutely right. There is a mistake in the notation.
White did not play 7.Qe2 but 7.Rf1

fredthebear: The Editor Notes (in red at the bottom) state 7.Rf1 was played. Therefore <perfidious> comment 9...Qxg5 no longer applies because he apparently was looking at a different position.

So one asks the question anyway?

If 9...QxNg5? then 10.fxQg5+ (by the Rf1) gains time for the White queen to save herself with 11.QxBg4. Black could interpose with 10...Nf3+, but White just captures the knight one way or the other. The Black queen is extinguished while the White queen remains.

As is common in Italian games, Black's queen capture might work well against White's typical check & unpin tactic if it were not for the pawn on f4 and the Rf1.
