Sep-03-11  ewan14: Cracking game !

Petrosian really on the attack to avenge his loss to Gligoric in the first round of the 1963 P. Cup

(which was His first loss as world champion ? )

Sep-10-21  tessathedog: Some of the most elegant "Patented Petrosian Exchange Sacrifices" were merely prepared and not played. In this game, Gligorich sees through 16 ...Bxc3 17 Nxc3!! (protecting the e4 pawn) Bxf1 18 Qxf1, which Tigran had intended, the Armenian describing the compensation as "substantial" (obviously the two bishops, and also Petrosian refers to e5/Ne4 being in the air). Petrosian also fancied his chances after 16...Bxe2 17 Qxe2 Bxc3 18 bxc3 Rxe4 19 f5. In this case it's the compensation for a pawn that is substantial. Lovely positional sacrificial ideas from this very, very profound player.
Sep-10-21  RookFile: The older I get, the more I want to be like Petrosian. You're right that he was profound. Gligoric was a great player too, a true pioneer of the King's Indian. But Petrosian took it to an even more profound level.
