Benzol: I've wondered whether Beliavsky lost on time in this game. White appears to be winning but what's the best method? 42.♖c4 seems to suggest itself. The threat of 43.♖c8+ looks hard to meet.

42.♖c4 ♕b7
43.♕c3

looks nasty for Black.

Any ideas anyone? Is there any analysis in "Petrosian vs The Elite"?

paulalbert: I would guess that he resigned after adjournment ( sealed move being ...Qb6 ), not losing on time, since the first time control was probably in those days at move 40; but haven't done any research on the exact playing format of this tournament or this particular game. Paul Albert
