Apr-05-05  mack: This remarkable game was played for the BBC's Master Game series. 13.Bb5 has only been played three times in this database. When I get back home it might be worth transcribing some of the players' comments actually...

Jan-17-14  Skisuitof10: Regarding Mack's comments _ if you listen to Quinteros' comments during this game you can hear him trying to recall the moves of the game played between Platonov and Mimic (Sochi, 1968).
Feb-23-14  hedgeh0g: Quinteros let a win slip with the out-of-character 23.Qg3?.

23.h4 would already be strong, but Black can still hang on after 23...Rxd6 24.h5 e5!, holding up the h-pawn's advance (at least temporarily).

However, White has a far stronger move in 23.Rc1!!, forcing the exchange of rooks (23...Kd8 24.Rc7! ), after which Black will be forced to give up his bishop for the h-pawn.

Aug-24-16  MajorGiggles: An amazing game, so many combinations left "behind the scenes".

14 ... Qxa2

Simple and afterwards Black stands better. But it wouldn't have been nearly as interesting!

LoveThatJoker: To elaborate on what <hedgeh0g> wrote about, Quinteros had in fact seen 23. Rc1, but was afraid of the following line 23...Rc6 24. Rxc6 bxc6 25. h4 b4 26. h5 Ba6 thinking that the Bishop would get in time to defend the h7 square (the fact that he even considered this defense shows how strong a GM he was at the time).

However, Stockfish, of course, demonstrates that White could have won in this line via +13.29 (32 ply) 27.Qg5 f6 28.Qg6+ Kd8 29.h6 Kc8 30.h7 Bb5 31.Qg7 Rd8 32.h8=Q Rxh8 33.Qxh8+.

Additionally, 41. Qf6+ would have allowed White to continue pressurizing the Black position; 41. Rf3 being an inferior choice.

PS. The game that <Skisuitof10> is referring to was between Platonov and Minic (with an 'n'). Here is the link, I Platonov vs Minic, 1968.

Aug-05-23  CaptainEvans: This game's on YouTube - fascinating what went through the players' minds as they articulate aloud their moves.
