Oct-10-06  BadTemper: Yasser blew this game was winning until I think 29..Rb7
Feb-23-12  Everett: Actually this is pretty razor-sharp for some time. At first blanch I like <28..Qb7+ 29.Qxb7 Rxb7> where Black seems to have the better rook ending, but I don't think any comes of it after <30.d7 Rxd7 31.Rxb3>.

Is <24..cxd4> an improvement? Seems the counterplay from White's d-pawn helps Speelman tremendously.

Feb-24-12  Everett: A rudimentary computer check seems to indicate Yasser was making the best moves all the way through 34.Qd5, and if he had found the cool-headed <35.Ra8!> he may have brought home the point.

Of course there may have been time-trouble at this point...

OhioChessFan: 35...Qb5 pinning the Pawn while getting to the b file would also be good. Qd6/b6 just threw away a tempo. Like you, I'd guess time trouble.

Isnt 36.d8=Q just equal? I don't think Seirawan wants to come off of eyeing d8.

Feb-25-12  Everett: <nummerzwei> Well, shows you what I know.

Apparently Yasser's quickest win would have been <34..Qh5+ 35.Qh4 Qf5+> with the winning choices of picking off d7 and queening on b1.
