offramp: I think Fleming gave Steinitz a bit of a shock. 9,Nxf7 definitely looks like the right move. But 18.Bb5+ might be a mistake.
Apr-26-14  heuristic: 8.Bc4 looks much better

I've reviewed with an engine, but I don't have a understanding of why 17. Ne2 is _so_ bad
and 17...c4 is _so_ good.

i can see that 17.e5 is a better move,
but my mental analysis can't substantiate the engine's analysis of the two moves at 17.

Jul-24-20  Atking: Allgaier sacrifice might be dubious, still playable Indeed it's 2 pawns for the Knight and the lost of the right of castling. Here 11.fxg Be7 12.0-0! as 12...Bxh4? 13.Bf7+ is simply terrific. For example 13...Kf8 14.Bh5+ Bf6 15.Qe2 Kg7 16.e5! dxe 17.d5 Nd4 18.Qxe5 as BxQ? 19.Rf7 mates.
