Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-24-12  achieve: Timman comments on this game:

"In the last round I had to play Robbie Hartoch. We both could get an IM norm by a simple draw. We were about equal and he offered a draw... I refused, and was better a few moves later, and went on to win the game. Peopl were outraged... But I played to win the tournament, and Robbie didn't mind at all."

Timman went on to win the "Meestergroep" with a 10.5/15 score.

This game was played in the round <before> last; the penultimate round... For Hartoch to get the coveted IM title he had to win his last round game, which he did.
