Aug-27-12  Rio Mike: I just bought "Lessons with a Grandmaster".This little gem is the first game of the book. It's amazing how each exchange improved White's position!

plang: 4..e5!? allowed White to obtain the type of simplified position he wanted against his young talented opponent. Gulko thought that 14..Rd8 15 Ne3..Ne7 would have been an improvement for Black with just a small edge for White. White would have had great compensation for the pawn after 17..Nb4 18 c4..Nxa2+ 19 Kb1..Nb4 20 fxe..fxe 21 Ng5. A tougher defense would have been 20..cxd 21 Ne6..d4 22 Rhe1..Bf6 23 Nxd8..Kxd8 24 Kc2 with some advantage to White.
