Nov-15-05  Andoy: The Q will be lost. Brave black.
Nov-15-05  makaveli52: interesting game, black has a definite advantage at the end, but I think the resignation came early, as there is no simple way to counter 31. Qe1, however it is a win for black nevertheless
Nov-15-05  Ger7ry: After move 17, White looks all right to me. Black's pawns are shot. How do things fall apart so fast for White?
Nov-15-05  alexandrovm: very nice attack, but what does "bandito" means, and in what language? If it would be in spanish, it must be wrote "bandido" which means "bandid"
Nov-15-05  NakoSonorense: <Alex> have you heard of Frito Bandito? It's a cartoon created for a commercial ad. I think Chito sounds a lot like Frito, so thats's why today's (or shd i say tomorrow's) game of the day features this pun.

saludos, amigo

Nov-15-05  greyfox: in our language "bandito" means villain... i just dont know if the pun for today gives the same idea as "bandito" in ours...
Nov-15-05  ellipotrix: <Makaveli52> of course there is 31. ♕e1 ♖d2! if 32.♔h3 then ♖xg3! 33. ♔h4 ♖h2#; if 32. ♔h1 then ♘xg3! 33. ♔g1 ♘e4! 34. ♔h1 ♘f2! 35. ♔h2 ♘e4! 36. ♔h3 ♖g3! 37. ♔h4 ♖h2# during this play, white can sacrafice his queen for a rook and knight, but at this stage he is two pawns down one of them passed!
Nov-15-05  chessboyhaha: Oh my Gosh! A beautiful game. Real good one. The quenn sac came from nothing.
Nov-15-05  Dres1: nice game
Nov-15-05  I3illieJoe: Chito Bandito...they made it sound similar to "Chico Bandido" (Chito is the name of Garma), in Spanish meaning "villain kid" .

Sneaky: <Frito Bandito, The - Stereotypical Mexican bandit (voice of Mel Blanc) with a large brim hat, pot belly and slurred English accent seen in a number of Frito Lay Corn Chip commercials in the late 1960s. In 1969, under pressure from the Mexican Anti-Defamation Committee, who claimed the Frito Bandito character's "sneaky thief" image was damaging to the Mexican-American culture, the executives at Frito Lay were forced to revaluate the Frito Bandito campaign.> http://www.tvacres.com/admascots_fr...

Nov-15-05  ughaibu: I think I'll start a campaign to have male villains removed from literature as the images are damaging to men. That'll get rid of most of the classics, religious texts, Agatha Christie, etc.
Nov-15-05  Autoreparaturwerkbau: I find white playing very passive after the queen "sac". I also find passiveness the reason for losing the game here.
Nov-15-05  alexandrovm: <NakoSonorense: <Alex> have you heard of Frito Bandito? It's a cartoon created for a commercial ad. I think Chito sounds a lot like Frito, so thats's why today's...> hey, thank you my friend! And to all other kibitzers that explained their own opinion :) Best wishes to all...
Nov-15-05  alexandrovm: <in our language "bandito" means villain... > if your language is english or spanish, bandito doesn't apear in the dictionary. Perhaps "bandito" is a slang in english?
Nov-15-05  schnarre: Ditto!
Nov-15-05  EmperorAtahualpa: Nice GOTD! The pun is also good!

Concerning the game itself, I had a hard time spotting which of White's moves were bad, so I had Crafty take a look at it.

Crafty suggests that White made two (minor) blunders:

- Rather than 23.Qf2? Crafty recommended 23.Qd1.

- The more obvious blunder: rather than 30.Qf2? Crafty recommended 30.Rg1.

Concerning the early resignation, White is down in pawns and positionally also in a worse position. So I would say that the timing of the resignation was realistic.

Nov-15-05  Happypuppet: The queen sac is impressive. But then again, moving the queen away seems to give White an extremely active position. You can definitely calculate some compensation for the sac without a huge amount of difficulty, getting a rook, knight, and likely a pawn or two.
Nov-15-05  kevin86: There used to be an ad referring to the "Frito Bandito". It was a cheap, insulting slur on the Mexican community and thankfully no longer is run.

The game is a bit of a paradox:white seems to be materially ahead, but behind in all other ways. A good win by black.

Nov-16-05  Koster: Another victim of political correctness, like the Taco Bell chihuahua.
Nov-16-05  kevin86: <koster> I see a great difference between the two;The Frito Bandito is a stereotype of the Mexican bandit---Mexicans are "known" to be dishonest bandits,(obviously, they are not). The dog really fits as the chihuahua is actually named for a Mexican province/state. I loved the dog!
Nov-16-05  schnarre: <kevin86> Weren't chihuahuas raised for their meat in the old days?
