Nov-08-04  AdrianP: This game is a cracker. Golubev sacrifices piece after piece. Aagard analyses it in detail in his Attacking Chess CD.
Jun-21-06  KingG: Yes, fantastic game. Golubev just sacrifices piece after piece.

15.Rf3!! is a really nice move, opening up the g-file, and removing the blockade of the e-pawn, freeing the light-squared bishop(incidentally, if Black tries to maintain the blockade with 16...e5, then 17.Rg1! Kh8 18.Rxg7! is winning).

Jul-29-08  Autoreparaturwerkbau: No doubt last 3 moves seem well worthwhile a puzzle. But above that ... that's some chess there!
Aug-05-12  shakman: Fantastic game!

NM JRousselle: This is a clever exchange sacrifice. The silicon beast suggests a defense beginning with 16... Ne8.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Hold on there one gosh-darn moment--does this we *don't* need all 7 of our pieces to play this dang game?!

Teyss: What a cracking game. Yes it's 2001, not 19th century. Had Black accepted the Rook sac with 19...Kxg7, White would have been 2 Rooks & Bishop behind in material. Correction: vs 1 Pawn.

White then wins with 20.exf6+ (not Qxf6+? as I first thought) Kh8 (Kg8 21.Qg4+) 21.fxe6 and Black can only delay mate. e.g. 21...h6 22.Qe4.

The pun: I guess it refers to the Poisoned Pawn Variation which mostly applies to a Najdorf. The f3 Rook acted as a b2 Pawn to open the column.

Nf6/e8 is a standard defensive move that I inevitably miss. There's just something hard about breaking communication between the Rooks when you typically work so hard to clear that rank out. But it's a great way to defend g7 when the g file is half open. It's amazing how often it's an only move.
