offramp: In the middle of this game White sets up a mating scenario which influences the rest of the game.

The pattern is mainly due to the powerful LSB, which arrives on b3 at move 28 and stays there right to the end.

Black played 34...b6, attacking the knight on c5, but White ignores that and plays 35.Kh5!

This is not a mate threat, it's a perpetual check threat. White is two pawns down at the moment.
If 35...bxc5
36.Re6+! Bxe6
37.Rxe6+! again! Kg7
38.Rg6+ Kh7 etc etc etc.
*****
A move later White plays
36.Rg3!

Now THAT is a mate threat: Rg6#! Harsh!
Black has only one way of stopping the mate: the dreaded 36...Nh8.

It is worth looking at the rest of the game and that mating position.

If you play through it with Stockfish you'll see that its evaluation of the position goes up and down like Jimmy Savile's knickers, but it is a very interesting game.

Well played Kitto.
