plang: In the draw Ivanchuk-Dominguez Erevan 2001 Black had played 7..Bb4; 7..Bd6 was new but was not an improvement. 13..Rd8?! did not solve Black's problems; Gulko recommended 13..Bd7 14 Bxd7..Nbxd7 15 Qd2..Rad8 16 0-0-0...Ne5 17 Qd4..Qa6 with Black having compensation for the pawn. Nakamura's 14..a6?! was also not helpful; perhaps 14..Ne8 15 Bxe8..Rxe8 16 Qd2 was worth considering. 15..Qxb2 16 Na4..Rxd6 17 Nxb2..Rxd1+ 18 Rxd1 would have left White an exchange ahead. After 16..Qa5? 17 b4 Nakamura was lost; necessary was 16..Qxb2 with some White edge.
