Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-11-10  Marmot PFL: Fine game by GM Keene and very well annotated.
Mar-11-10  Marmot PFL: <The alternative defence 22...d5 is objectively no improvement, although it would have been a better practical try, since the precise continuation of the attack is difficult to find: 22...d5 23 cxd5 Qxd5 24 Re5! (during the game I only looked at 24 Ne4, which is good, but not crushing) 24...Qd4 (24...Qd6 25 Ne4 Qd4 26 Re8+ Kg7 27 Rxd8 ) 25 Re8+ Kg7 26 Nf5+!! gxf5 (if 26...Bxf5 27 Qxd4+ Rxd4 28 Rxa8 ) 27 Qg3+ Kh6 (27...Kf6 28 Rxd8 Qxd8 29 Qh4+ ) 28 h4! f6 (28...Qf6 29 Qg5+ Qxg5 30 hxg5+ followed by 31 Rxd8 - the vulnerability of the pieces lined up on Black's back rank is the constant theme of these variations) 29 Re7 Qg4 30 Qxc7 Rh8 (or 30...Qg8 31 Qf4+) 31 Rf7 and White has a winning attack despite his piece minus, since the black queen's rook and bishop are incapable of development; e.g. 31...Qg6 32 Qe7 or 31...Qd4 32 Qe7 Kg6 33 h5+ Kg5 34 Rxf6 Qxf6 35 f4+ .>

Keene candidly admits that not of this was analyzed OTB as opposed to intuition. (Great achievement either way.) Fritz cannot find several moves for white in this attack, although it does recognize their strength once they are played.
