Nov-15-03  ughaibu: Caseyclyde: Your examples are all substitutes for human behaviour, the implication is that the future of chess will consist of contests to see which player can best "drive" their computer.
Nov-15-03  refutor: is it possible that the ruy lopez has been refuted by the main line of the berlin defense? kasparov couldn't crack it in his match with kramnik...fritz couldn't crack it in it's match with kramnik...despite the extreme processing power, the computer *gets kasparov out of book* by playing 4.d3 v. the berlin? if this keeps up within a couple of years everyone will be playing the king's gambit again ;)
Nov-15-03  Benjamin Lau: <is it possible that the ruy lopez has been refuted by the main line of the berlin defense? >

NOOO!!!! The horror! lol ;-) Evan's Gambit is already not considered tier 1 at the super GM level, what will people play against 1... e5 if the Ruy Lopez goes the way of the dodo?

Nov-15-03  ughaibu: Maybe Breyer was right when he said "after 1.e4 white's game is in it's last throes".

Eggman: <Until a machine convincingly beats Nemeth all this Kasparov nonsense is just eye-wash>

Nemeth? Who's Nemeth?

Nov-15-03  Alchemist: Nemeth is the champion of the human race against the machines.(imho) (If computer chess was the matrix he'd be Neo) He is a master of hedgehog positions and long term positional sacrifices. He has a unique anti-computer style.
Nov-15-03  darkawakenings: Personally, I think that computers solving the game will drastically reduce the beauty of chess. What happens when someone memorizes, even just the first THREE correct moves of the game, for both sides? Thousands of variations and sub variations will be killed.

I dread this day!

Nov-15-03  Benjamin Lau: Alchemist is correct. Nemeth's style is perfectly suited to anti-computer play. He's not an extremely strong player against humans (he's about 2200 last I heard), but he knows exactly how to drag computers to their doom. He understands how they work and exploits their weaknesses ruthlessly. Here are a couple of Nemeth's best games against recent versions of Fritz, Junior, etc. The site also contains anti-computer strategies and very useful tips (no, they're not a bunch of general and useless stuff like "aim for closed positions"):

Amazingly, Nemeth's anti-computer strategies seem to work best under 10 minute blitz (which seems strange because computers usually annihilate humans several points to zero at blitz).

Nov-16-03  billikid: <benLOW> seems u got so much to talk about anythin that is to say,i want your overwhelming opinion on just about anything like let's say, chinese gambit in soy sauce variation? you must have lots of things to say on this one especially from u...
Nov-16-03  Benjamin Lau: <billikid>

I don't know why you've decided to target me for your random and puerile nonsense. Do you have anything else in that head of yours besides insults? Anything to contribute to the discussion whatsoever? By the way, your comments, while not racist, are getting borderline.

Nov-16-03  ughaibu: Benjamin Lau: He's got it right, your opinion on anything is worth reading.
Nov-16-03  Benjamin Lau: Thanks for the somewhat ironic support Ughaibu. :-)
Nov-16-03  DWINS: Benjamin Lau, Just ignore him. If no one responds to him, he'll eventually go away.
Nov-16-03  billikid: looks like your gettin the message and hopefully you will shut up eventually with your nonsense ideas on chess..leave the chess stuff to the masters and you will have better things to do then on top of your washing dishes and makin sweet and sour duck...<benLOW>
Nov-16-03  ughaibu: Seems intellectual level is neither here nor there when it comes to an interest in chess.

Benzol: <chessgames.com> Perhaps you should put the posting guidelines in larger lettering. Particularly numbers 1 and 3. <Benjamin Lau> If you really feel the need, use your ignore list mate.
Nov-16-03  drukenknight: Denigrating othere people seems to be a common place in chess; among masters and among lesser lights.

Oh well. Any predictions for game 3? I think Kasparov has hit the wall. I think he has less than 50% chance to draw last 2, which would be a moral victory I think. I leave him almost zero chance to tie the match.

Nov-16-03  Nova1990: <I don't know why you've decided to target me for your random and puerile nonsense> Benjamin Lau, if you're curious about the reason, you might want to look at your November 12th post on the game 1 page of this match. Chessgames.com has been diligently deleting a number of billikid's posts. Billikid, I know you feel deeply insulted, but I suggest you drop these attacks, especially since they violate or come close to violating guideline 1. Many people dislike racist remarks and I don't want you to end up being hated for making them.
Nov-16-03  free dark: hi to all >>where i can see the game 3 ? please
Nov-16-03  Nova1990: Drukenknight, I think that Kasparov has got to be sweating bullets now. I hope he's able to overcome the pressure, though. But if he loses this match, I don't think it means much about man vs. machine. And even though Kasparov is the highest rated player, it doesn't mean he's the best human player against computers.
Nov-16-03  Nova1990: Freedark, you can see game 3 online at http://www.x3dchess.com/# under "watch live now". Chessgames.com won't cover it live but will post the game afterward. Also ESPN said that they would cover it under ESPN-2 but I don't trust those weasels anymore. After advertising that they would cover game 2 on ESPN-2, they switched to tennis in the middle of the game and without any clear announcements, put the coverage on ESPNews. I am guessing that there was some behind the scenes fighting over the coverage of the match at ESPN. If ESPN doesn't want to p*** off its viewers, it should keep its promise to cover events that were advertised well in advance.
Nov-16-03  Bears092: Nova - They clearly posted that they would move it.
Nov-16-03  Nova1990: Bears092, where did they post that info? The only info I got that the channel was moved during game 2 was from our friends here at chessgames.com.
Nov-16-03  Bears092: It was on their ticker on the bottom. It was flashing and all.
Nov-16-03  Nova1990: After they went to tennis, they said they were going to come back later on the same channel. So I went to watch on the X3D site. So I did not see the flashing. It was still crummy of them to switch channels.
