Eatman: Nice finish by white to exploit black square weakness of black on the kingside. What's strange about this game is that I found it in the game of the day archives under Aug-19-04 date, which already had another Game of the Day, namely "Burger and Fries". Personaly this one does not have as nice a pun, but more exciting game itself. :)
Aug-19-04  themindset: yes, amazing game.
Premium Chessgames Member It was around 12:20am this morning when we realized that the clock on the chessgames server was an hour early (we had to shut down yesterday for hardware upgrades)--so I ran the software that updates the Game of the Day manually, and in the grand style of modern computer technology the darn thing ended up running TWICE. So this is the "game of the day that never was", a freebee from ;-)

kevin86: Mate next move 39...♔xg5 40 ♕f4#.The bishop first shields the queen from the black rook-then leads black's king into the mousetrap.

From Greece:Phelps wins 200IM (4 gold,2 bronze-2 events remaining)
