Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-03-08  A.G. Argent: Ah yes, the ol' wedge game. Ah, the symmetry. Very, very nicely done, indeed, by Petrik. With 40.g4, he began to inexorably break down said pyramid of pawns (and what a classic wedge it is), opening up the g file and very deftly and smooth as butter weave and bob into a mating net with Foltys' King quite well defended by Queen and country, thank you very much. Just downright purty. And another one of those tournaments played in a Nazi occupied country which always fascinates me. By '43, the Germans were being pretty damned oppresive in what was then Czechoslovakia. But evidently they allowed it. Must have been before Heydrich was killed by the Czech underground in May, 1943, which really cheesed them off. Or maybe their boy Alekhine was involved with the games. Oops sorry, just kidding. Didn't mean it. It was a joke. Laugh out loud, nudge, nudge and all that. Alekhine/Nazi controversy? What controversy?

Heydrich was already dead: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinha...

Btw., this game was played by Miloslav Foltys, not Jan.

Sep-05-08  A.G. Argent: Thanks<Gypsy> Ain't sure why I was thinking it was '43. Hate getting facts wrong. Need to read my Shirer again.
