Jun-23-14  zanzibar: I believe this is Miloslav Foltys playing and not Jan.

There wouldn't be two games where Jan played White against Vasicek (who may be X Vasicek and not F Vasicek btw):

Aug-15-18  sachistu: Yes, this was Miroslav Foltys <zanzibar>. However, Black was Frantisek Vasicek. See Zlin 1943 tournament book (by M. Foltys) p.113. I do not know how the 'X Vasicek' name originated. The tournament book lists Frantisek Vasicek (diacritics omitted) with very brief bio on page 119.
Aug-15-18  zanzibar: <sachistu> I probably have been neglectful in updating/applying this information comment by vaclav.Fencl, left on the About page on my blog:

https://zanchess.wordpress.com/about/

First comment, from 2015-07-03. I believe he's in full agreement with you.

(I also think we had a discussion about the possible origins of the X somewhere or another - but I don't have the time/inclination to look for the ref at the moment)

Aug-15-18  sachistu: <zanzibar> It sounds like you already have this item on your 'to-do' list. Otherwise, I can submit a correction slip, if necessary.

IMO, there's not a lot of value in researching the origins of 'X'. Actually, the only place I have seen the 'X' was an online database, so you have to treat that with some skepticism. I don't think there is any doubt the player's name was Frantisek.

Although Czech is not my language, I can take a stab at merging the information in Fencl's comment with what I found in the Zlin tournament book to come up with a brief bio, if that will help. At least we know he was born in 1913 and died in 1995. There are a few more chess-related items that can be included.

Btw, I did see Fencl's comment on the zanchess site. I've transcribed the games he included (except for the Zlin 1943 games, which I have). I'd like to contact him as a couple of the game scores are suspect.
