Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-08-06  percyblakeney: 59. ... Kg2 would have drawn and given the title to Svidler.
Sep-08-06  jamesmaskell: Time pressure perhaps. 59...Kg2 seems the most logical move.
Sep-09-06  ahmadov: Yes, it seems that that extra one minute for Gischuk did matter.

tamar: World Team: Study this one.

Grischuk's plan with 13 Qd2 seems an improvement over R Ovetchkin vs Rublevsky, 2004 He finds an active role for the queen at f4, something that we need to pressure Nickel.

Sep-18-06  RookFile: Maybe this is right. I'll have to look closely at this game.
Sep-19-06  Willem Wallekers: <World Team: Study this one.> That would be a waste of time if he plays Nd7 iso Nc6. The first mentioned is rather more popular.
Sep-25-06  alexandrovm: what an incredible game by Alexander!
Oct-06-06  positionalgenius: A great game by grischuk to take the title.
Apr-29-07  notyetagm: Why in the world did Svidler play 51 ... ♘c4-d2??, placing his Black knight precariously on the enemy's side of the board where it is not supported by any Black pieces or pawns? After the simple 52 ♖a1-d1!, the knight is <TRAPPED>!

Position after 51 ... ♘c4-d2?? 52 ♖a1-d1!, trapping Black d2-knight:

Now 52 ...♘d2-b3+ loses the knight to 53 ♔c5-b4 (<NO RETREAT>)

and the knight is also lost as in the actual game continuation after 52 ...♘d2xf3 53 ♖d1-f1 (<PIN>)
