Dec-30-06  stanleys: Oops Mr Kasparov got mated!Am I dreaming???
Dec-30-06  jdoliner: yeah that does seem to be the case
Jan-08-07  stanleys: Being mated in this game, allowing stalemate in another - this match was a real nightmare for Kasparov
Apr-20-07  stanleys: <chessgames>It should read 53.Bh7 mate
Apr-21-07  Fisheremon: Perhaps it was a blitz, cos' a lot of mistakes. The most notable are:

23.Nd6? losing, 23...R8c5?! (23...Bf8! winning).

At 38 and 40 moves White missed Nxf7 with advantage.

51...g5??? an amateur blunder !! (51...b1Q+!? with chances to win, but likely a draw).

Apr-21-07  Tomlinsky: Analysing blitz games is a complete waste of time and effort.

As a sidenote. I find it amusing that Kasparov picks holes in Fischers performance against Spassky in 1992 in which there were some very interesting games, from a guy that hadn't played competitively in 20 years, when you compare his performance here with Fischer at the Herceg Novi World Blitz Championship.

Jun-24-08  AAAAron: Holy Schnikeys Batman, THE Kasparov ended a game by getting mated. Was this a blitz match, or was he almost up in time??? This has to be the ONLY game of his where he gets mated. That is one of the shining beauties of chess, before the game comes to a definate end, the chess player can simply give up, as if to say this game hurts too bad!!!!

paulalbert: This game is definitely 5 minute blitz from the famous Saint John blitz tournament. Kasparov also failed to win another game against Georgiev in their elimination match with K,Q, and B against K ,creating a stalemate by a Q move blunder even with plenty of time left. This tournament was won by Tal winning without too much difficulty in the final ( 4 games I believe ) against Vaganian. A VCR tape was made of this tournament which I think I still have. The look on Kasparov's face when Georgiev indicated stalemate is priceless. Paul Albert
