Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-14-08  grasser: Not a resignable position in my opinion.
Dec-19-08  mertangili: i think black resigns in view of 23... Kh8 24. dxc7 Rc8 (only way to stop promotion since 24.. Bb7 25. Bxb7 Rxb7 26. c8=Q fails) 25. Bxe4 and white is up a piece and a pawn and has a very dangerous passed pawn on c7.
Jul-16-24  TheaN: This game is linked to on today's PotD (Dake vs A De Burca, 1935) with the notion Burca resigned too early as he's not losing a piece.

Technically true, Black can defend against the double attack on c7 and e4 with 23....Qf7, attacking the queen, meaning White only has time to take one bishop. However, the resulting position <is> resignable. White can simplify or not, but the point is the same: b6 is weak so either white keeps Pd6 or invades with two bishops.

Including simplification (I personally would) it's 24.Qxf7+ Kxf7 25.Bxe4 Bxd6 (Bd8 +- is just horrible) 26.Bxb6 Re7 27.Rad1 +-:

Fair, White has yet to win anything but b6, yet this is a terrible position to play for Black.

At the risk of gilding the lily, I'm wondering whether 27.Red1

mightn't be even stronger, being that 27...Bb4 then wouldn't gain a tempo, and White could further embarrass the bishop (which is preventing the skewer of Black's rooks) by 28.a3. After the smoke clears a few moves later, I believe that Black would incur further loss of material.
