who: 9...d6 has been played by other players with better success (Fritz agrees). A simple way to show this is that after 11.Bxe7 Re8 12.Bxf6 Qxf6 0-0 material equality is equal but white still has the initiative.

Fritz thinks 14...Qd5 would have kept black in the game.

I think the irony in this whole line is that black sacs a pawn to give white a terrible pawn structure, but it is white who sacs back two pawns (for a net one pawn sac) for a very strong initiative.

Apr-14-07   TheHurricane3: Yes, I agree Schiller would of played 9...d6 prior to castling.
Jun-05-07   Gameoverziggy: this is a god awful defense for black losing your dsb for the knight to get triple pawns is not worth it

Resignation Trap: <Gameoverziggy> I'm sure that in some book on chess strategy an author must have written "Never trade off your fianchettoed bishop for a knight, even to win a pawn." Well, I don't have that book. A quick glance at the results of this line indicated that Black does quite well: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... (the games may be classified either as ECO B06 or B27, depending on move order). A main practicioner of this line is our own User: IMlday .
